The people shaping Chicago's Architecture are doing more than designing spaces — they are influencing how communities connect, how stories are preserved, and how the city continues to evolve.

JGMA is proud to share that Juan Gabriel Moreno has been recognized in Newcity's Design 50: The Fifty People Who Shape Chicago in 2026, an honor celebrating individuals whose work is making a lasting impact across neighborhoods, communities, and cultures. These are leaders who are not only rethinking what design can do, but who it is for.

We are honored to announce that JGMA’s Humboldt Park Health Wellness Center has received a Special Mention in the 2026 Architizer A+ Awards for the Architecture+Health category! It is an honor awarded to fewer than 10% of submissions, with entries received from more than 70 countries.

The Architecture+Health category recognizes projects designed to improve and preserve the health of their inhabitants through thoughtful, human-centered design– prioritizing healthy materials and the health and well-being of occupants.

The Humboldt Park Health Wellness Center is designed as a state-of-the-art facility that expands access to health and fitness services while supporting the long-term health and well-being of Humboldt Park community.

JGMA and the project team is thrilled to announce our upcoming project: the Proviso West High School Sports Complex in Hillside, Illinois!

The project will transform the Proviso West campus into a state-of-the-art athletics destination featuring upgraded competition fields, track facilities, spectator amenities, improved accessibility, and enhanced safety and circulation.

We are honored and excited to meet with students, faculty, community members, and the Proviso Township High School District #209 Board over the next coming months to design a new facility that meets the needs and aspirations of the community.

Our goal is to create an inspiring, accessible, and welcoming destination– one that fosters pride, supports community gathering, promotes health and activity, and positions Proviso West as a regional hub through programming and shared use.

PBC Connection Sessions continue to remind us how important it is to create spaces where students and professionals from diverse fields can connect. This year’s Connection Session, hosted at Malcolm X College, gave JGMA the opportunity to share more about our firm and projects while engaging with students, contractors, professional service providers, MBE/WBE firms, vendors, subcontractors, and community partners across the industry.

What makes events like this meaningful is the opportunity to inspire the next generation. For students preparing to enter the construction field, these conversations offer real insight into the industry, valuable connections, and pathways toward future careers. Thank you to the Public Building Commission of Chicago and Ray Giderof for investing in these public networking events and ensuring that they are accessible to all.

At JGMA, an event we look forward to every year is Henricksen’s Annual SMASH Charity Ping Pong Tournament. This is our fifth consecutive year participating in the event and the second time we received the runner up prize! We are proud to have raised funds in support of Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s mission to foster social reconciliation and economic justice by centering artists and communities connected to ancient foot, hand, and vocal rhythmic traditions.

More than anything, events like SMASH are a reminder for us that building community can happen in so many ways– through friendly competition, shared laughter, and collective support for organizations making a positive impact across Chicago. We’re especially grateful to Tyesha Davis and Kimball International for trusting us with their sponsorship for the second year in a row.

This year’s tournament raised a record-breaking $35,000 for charity, and we’re honored to have been part of it. Thank you to Henricksen for continuing to create such a meaningful and fun event in support of great causes. Already looking forward to the next one!

Earlier this week, JGMA joined Start Early, families, educators, community partners and local leaders in Zion, Illinois to celebrate the groundbreaking of Educare Lake County– an exciting milestone for early learning in the community.

The new 38,000-square-foot facility, located on 27th Street between Gabriel Avenue and Bethel Boulevard, was thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming space where education, care and community come together. Positioned between two existing middle schools, the center will help strengthen a continuous learning environment for children and families in Zion.

Once complete, Educare Lake County will provide a safe, nurturing, and inspiring setting for 174 children from birth to age 5, supporting high-quality early childhood education and comprehensive family services designed to help every child thrive.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life and look forward to seeing the impact this new space will have for generations to come.

We are delighted to announce that our Humboldt Park Health Wellness Center received two awards at last week’s Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards ceremony!

Now in its 70th year, the CBC Merit Awards celebrate some of the building industry’s most innovative and impactful projects. To be recognized during this milestone year is especially meaningful. The Wellness Center was honored in both the Healthcare and Community Impact Project categories.

Humboldt Park Health is a nonprofit, community-based safety-net healthcare provider known for its commitment to health equity and serving underserved populations, particularly within the Humboldt Park community. The new Wellness Center was designed as a state-of-the-art facility that reflects HPH’s holistic approach to health outcomes, providing community members with accessible, high-quality health and fitness services that support long-term wellness across generations.

We are delighted to announce that our CircEsteem Building Renovation received two awards at last week’s Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards ceremony!

CircEsteem is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting youth of all backgrounds and fostering healthy self-esteem through the practice and performance of circus arts. Our transformation of their former 1960s-era Lakeside Theatre included ceramic tile mosaic removal, masonry restoration, and new window openings along the façade, as well as extensive interior demolition to accommodate a new ceiling with circus rigging, training rooms, tutoring spaces, and open office areas.

The CBC Merit Awards have celebrated the building industry since 1956 by singling out some of the most innovative and impactful projects in the Chicagoland area. We are honored to be recognized in both the Renovation & Adaptive Reuse and Community Impact Project categories for this project that helps nurture the confidence, creativity, and talents of youth.
