Should I paint it black? YES!

If you have spent much time around me you know that when in doubt, I always want to paint it black. Sometimes I feel like Leanne Ford's evil twin 😆. I truly believe dark paint colors elevate a space in a way nothing else quite can. (Ask my husband. I’m pushing real hard to paint the exterior of our little white farmhouse Iron Ore). 🖤

Here’s a quick list of my current favorites (from left to right).

Have that room in your home that is a bit of a catch-all? This is a room that everyone in the family uses it a little differently? To some it’s an office, to others it’s an overflow TV area, maybe the Peloton even gets shoved in there. Many of us have a room like this… What can we do to make it function better?

BUILT-IN CABINETRY. Built-ins are your best friend when it comes to giving a room a purpose. Take this flex space wall for example… My client's bonus room is right off the great room. She wanted the room to serve as both a homework station for her young kids and also an additional movie watching space. We achieved both with this wall of cabinetry. It provides added storage and a printer station in the uppers, and also the perfect place to hang a TV (the Samsung Frame preferably) on the back wall. BONUS- Because I am always thinking of resale, the opening under the desk is also perfectly spaced for a wine and beverage fridge if the next homeowner would rather use this space as a lounge.

Welcome to the first weekend of 2023! It’s time for some self-care.

I love this little art moment happing in the . If you look closely you can see it’s a lady pushing a large rock up a hill. She has made it to the top and is about to tip the boulder over. It’s a good reminder to work hard, and also enjoy the downtime (not my best personality trait). 2023 is going to be the year of work hard…. Relax hard. Who’s with me!?!?!

This is also your reminder that bathrooms are an amazing place for fun art.

Happy New Year!

I am back in the office this morning feeling refreshed and ready to take on 2023! So much growth took place for Studio B. last year. We went from a design for construction studio (which we still specialize in) to a full-service design studio offering custom and trade-only furnishings, lighting, and accessories. What does that mean for our clients? It means when you work with us your home won’t look like anyone else’s on the block (I am an Enneagram 4 wing 5, so this is very important to me 😁). Are you ready to fill your home with pieces that feel uniquely tailored to your family’s specific needs? Want a white sofa but have kiddos, a dog, and life 😆. We have you covered! Happy Holidays from my little corner of the world! This year has been filled with the most beautiful projects, and even more beautiful clients. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to be in your homes getting to know you and your families. Cheers to each of you!!!

2023 is looking quite bright with some amazing projects starting to taking shape. I look forward to sharing more about each of them in the new year.
For now, it’s time to relax and spend some time in the snow with my family.

Let me introduce you to an exciting new project! The project is a custom new build in South Carolina. I have been quietly working away on this while recovering from my nerve surgery earlier this month. Over the last few weeks, I was able to redline our As- Designed plans, and do major space planning/redesign of nearly every room in the 3000sq ft. home.

Beautifully balanced kitchens never happen by chance. They take meticulous attention to detail and a lot of pushing and pulling of walls. Every single thing you move affects something else. I would best describe it as a very delicate dance. For this kitchen, it was important to my clients that… (1) The sink wall had a pass-through. (2) The island could seat 6 people. (3) The range wall feel symmetrical. Other areas that needed cleaning up were... (4) The fridge was in a traffic pattern. (5) All windows needed to be centered on doorways to make the most of the limited natural light.

Here’s a great example of why it’s so important to bring in a designer this early in your renovation or new build project. I was able to check off each wish list item by shifting the whole house 25” to the right and 25” up and reconfiguring the space. See all the notes to the architect on slide 3, and the new kitchen layout on slide 4. Now this AMAZING kitchen will be functional AND beautiful when it goes into construction later this year.

Sometimes…. You just need more space!

With the housing market the way it is in northern CA I am getting more and more calls for renovations and …. ADDITIONS. Sometimes you don’t want to move, but you do need a little larger footprint and a better layout to transform your 5-year home, into a forever home.

That is exactly what my clients experienced here. This 1960’s 1800-square-foot home was in a dream location near Bidwell Park, however, the choppy layout and long skinny footprint were not ideal for this large family. By pushing out 4’ into the backyard we were able to completely transform the living space into their dream open floor plan complete with a vaulted ceiling. Other fun design elements include a passthrough kitchen window, ceramic tile fireplace surround, and ADA-accessible primary suite.
