Fair Earth Nursery is a non-profit affiliate of the Work Training Center in Chico, California.

Fair Earth Nursery is a plant nursery located in Chico, California, with a wide selection of drought-tolerant perennials, pollinators, natives, heirloom vegetable starters, and seasonal annual color. We propagate many of our own plants and source from ethical wholesale nurseries when ordering plants in. We are a non-profit business and all of our proceeds directly benefit the mission of the Work T

raining Center by providing funding for staffing, programs, and facilities. Some of Fair Earth Nursery's employees are themselves WTC clients, which provides adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to gain real-world work experience in a productive learning environment. Fair Earth Nursery also provides many of the plants for the WTC's landscaping business, Inside Out Landscaping & Janitorial. Those interested in larger-scale landscaping products enjoy knowing their plants are sourced from a nursery of intensive, knowledgeable care. After many wonderful years, Fair Earth Nursery will be closing its doors. Our last day will be November 24th, and until then, everything is 75% off.

Hello, garden lovers! Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, these tips will help your Begonias flourish!

Choosing the Right Spot:
Begonias thrive in partial to full shade, making them perfect for those tricky, less sunny spots in your garden. For growing indoors, place them near a window with bright, indirect light.

Watering Wisely:
Begonias like their soil to be evenly damp, but standing water can lead to root rot. Water at the base of the plant to keep the foliage dry and prevent fungal issues.

Soil Secrets:
Use a well-draining soil mix that’s rich in organic matter. A mix of peat, compost, and perlite or sand works wonderfully. This will keep your Begonias happy and prevent water from accumulating around the roots.

Fertilizing for Success:
Feed your Begonias with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season. This will encourage lush foliage and abundant blooms. Be careful not to over-fertilize, as it can lead to leggy growth.

Choose the Right Spot:
Plant your asters in a spot that receives full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily). While they can tolerate partial shade, full sun will ensure the best blooms.
Ensure the soil is well-drained and fertile. Adding compost to the soil can provide the necessary nutrients for healthy growth.

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Water deeply to encourage strong root growth.
Ensure the soil is not waterlogged, as this can lead to root rot.

Planting:
Space asters about 1 to 3 feet apart, depending on the variety. This allows for good air circulation, reducing the risk of disease.
The best time to plant asters is in the spring or fall, giving them time to establish roots before extreme temperatures.

🌸 Buddleja Care Tips & Tricks 🌸

Hello plant lovers! Today, we’re spotlighting the beautiful Buddleja, also known as the butterfly bush. This vibrant, butterfly-attracting shrub is a favorite in many gardens. Here are some essential tips to keep your Buddleja thriving:

Sunlight: Buddlejas love full sun! Make sure they get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to bloom their best.

Watering: While Buddlejas are drought-tolerant once established, regular watering helps young plants develop strong roots. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.

Soil: These shrubs prefer well-drained soil. If your garden soil is heavy clay, consider planting Buddleja in raised beds or amending the soil with organic matter to improve drainage.
