The joys of working in an attic abating k**b & tube wiring.
If I’ve let anyone down lately I apologize sometimes things take way longer than anticipated.

It’s inexcusable that I don’t share more of our work.

I’ll try to change that bad habit.

Here’s a new panel that replaced an old fuse box & sub panel combo.
Our Chicopee customer was very pleased with her upgrade and can now rest a lot easier knowing she’s protected with circuit breakers & a whole house surge protector.
A new meter enclosure and service cable completed the installation outside.

Be careful who you hire to do the work of a skilled tradesmen.

These wires & several others were penetrated by 3” framing nails the handyman used to install new plywood on the roof of a customer of ours.

Essentially the customer saved $1000 having a handyman do their roofing then had to hire an electrician to determine why 1/2 the receptacles & lighting in their house no longer function since having their roof repaired.

Part of the Biden Inflation Reduction Act.

Many incentives for consumers to go electric. Some are presently available & many other incentives coming in 2024.

Check it out.

I’m all for it as an electrician but honestly Dementia Joe once again has no clue.
Our electric grids are already struggling so, hey, let’s add more usage.

The path to zero emissions requires household electrification. Go electric!

Some good info from another site**
IMPORTANT INFO FOR THIS EXTREME COLD
READ AND SHARE
Friday we all will experience temperatures and wind chills that our homes' heating systems are NOT designed for. Negative numbers!
Newer homes will struggle to maintain temperature and older homes will NOT maintain temperature and the temperature WILL drop while the heating system is working at full capacity.
1. Please raise the temperature in your home 2 to 4 degrees above your normal setting.
2. Take all programmable thermostats out of setback mode and set on a permanent HOLD with no overnight set back.
3. If you have a furnace; replace the filter.
4. Keep garage doors closed.
5. Limit opening exterior doors.
6. Make sure air vents and radiators are not blocked or obstructed.
7. If you have a 90%+ efficiency furnace or boiler: You must keep the intake and exhaust clear of ice and snow. During these cold temperatures, ice can build up. A 90%+ furnace and boiler have 2 white PVC pipes; an exhaust pipe and an intake pipe that are generally on the side or back of your home.
8. Refrain from using pellet stoves or supplemental heat forms ( mini splits ) if you have a water based heating system. The pipes WILL freeze If water isn't moving and there's drafty/cold spots.
9. Open cabinets where piping is located on outside walls.
If the temperature in your home is dropping and your radiators are HOT with boiler systems or you have HOT air coming out of your vents with furnaces DO NOT PANIC. Please make sure that your heating system continues to operate. Some homes dont have adequate amounts of baseboards to supply enough BTU's to heat the space on these days
If the temperatures do drop in your home, it will not be able to recover until temperatures rise and the windchill diminishes. Our heating systems cannot overcome temperatures -20 to -30 . They are sized to operate at 0 degrees outdoor. Put your thermostat on hold 70 degrees or higher.
To help minimize temperature loss you can boil water, make soup, or stews; they help introduce humidity and warmer temperatures into your home. Please check on neighbors and elderly residents during these extreme temperatures. Stay warm and safe this week.
Key is do NOT panic with falling temps inside your home if you have heat coming out of your registers. It is doing all it can. If it had feelings it will be crying!
Stay safe and bring your pets inside!

Wow.

We are thankful & appreciative for having great customers to do work for.

Here’s an accolade from just such a customer.

Kim Blanchard’s Facebook post 1/30/23 on the Chicopee Community Forum.

[Electrician Recommendation]: The Chicopee Area Community Forum recommended this electrician when I needed a bunch of work done, and he did not disappoint - We have completed our project and are beyond pleased at the work Jon and Jon Jr. did at our house.
They replaced 5 ceiling fans + 12 ceiling light fixtures + removed 2 outdated wall sconces + installed 2 new electrical outlets + converted an overhead pull chain light to a wall switch + updated our circuit breakers as well as all the ceiling fan wall switches (and a few other details I've likely forgotten). They took down parts of an outdated security system, and at every step of the way made sure everything was up to code and safe. We are over the moon happy with how everything turned out, and cannot recommend them enough. He was extremely communicative and kept us looped in at every turn, and we will be using them again in the fall for future work on the 2nd floor. Just wanted to share my experience - Thanks again for the amazing recommendation!

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours. Have a blessed & safe day with family & friends.

Facebook limits a business description to 250 letters so I’m posting this as a general post for those that don’t already know us.

Together with my son Jon Jr who has been working with me for literally 25 of his 33 years we provide licensed electrical services for Commercial, Industrial & Residential customers alike.
We are extremely conscientious & efficient and will never leave you wondering where the electrician is.
We are well rounded and eagerly provide skilled electrical services to homeowners as well as businesses.
I have been licensed 33 years and Jon Jr is actively pursuing his license, having successfully put in all his practical experience requirements of 10,000 hours in the field, he is now working on completing his classroom hours.
We are not the least expensive option out there but we definitely make up for that with the quality of our work.
We pride ourselves on being there when we say we will and doing the work with the least possible inconvenience to the customers schedule.
Depending on the scope of the project, what other electricians take an entire day to accomplish, we, because of how well we work together, more often than not, complete projects in far less time than others can/do.
We’re based out of Chicopee but we have no issues traveling throughout the state.
Reach out if you’re ever in need of electrical work.

We are offering home electrical safety inspections.
Please reach out if you’d like to schedule an inspection of your homes wiring including the main service cable, meter enclosure, breaker panel & branch circuit wiring.
Safety inspections are $110.

In depth comprehensive inspections with letter of compliance for real estate transactions are $250.
Don’t let a home building inspectors limited electrical knowledge put a damper on selling your home.
Many issues red flagged by home building inspectors are not code violations.
I’ve been on numerous jobs red flagged because of double tapped breakers.
I know this likely means nothing to the average homeowner but the reality is that several brands of circuit breakers are designed & UL approved for double tapping.
Don’t trust your safety or pay for unnecessary electrical work solely based on an inspection by anyone other than a licensed electrician.

Supposedly we’re facing a huge shortage of tradesmen & cannot help but wonder why Massachusetts & many other states, does/do not offer reciprocity or reciprocal agreements with each other.
After all it is the National Electrical Code we all must study to pass the exam.

I know that MA reciprocates with several states for Real Estate Licensing, but not for cosmologists, or electricians.
Who makes up these requirements/rules.

To obtain a Journeyman electricians license presently, you must
1) Complete 10,000 hours of in the field practical experience.
2) Attend 600 classroom hours studying the “National Electrical Code”
3) Apply for and successfully pass an exam based on the “National Electrical Code”.

If you want to operate a business with more than just yourself & a helper you must attend 150 hours of additional classroom hours then take and pass the Master Electrician exam.

The primary difference between a journeyman & a master is the master can hire other licensed guys and expand exponentially. It does not mean that the individual with the masters license is anymore knowledge or skilled than a journeyman.
In fact in many instances the opposite is true.
Being a journeyman you can only have yourself & one apprentice and your business name must be as it appears on your license ( Your name)
A masters license affords you the right to call your business pretty much anything you want.
ie Light House Electric etc.
