New Goodwill program provides handyman service for Ross County

Goodwill of South Central Ohio began piloting the Handy Helpers program in summer 2020 to employ individuals with disabilities and provide the community with a trusted source to turn to for handyman-like services.

Goodwill Handy Helpers can be called on by any Chillicothe and Ross County resident to complete small-to-medium sized home projects such as planting flowers, mulching, raking leaves, and even holiday decorating. Donations are accepted by recipients of services to go toward the program.

The program employs people with disabilities who attend Goodwill’s Chillicothe Activities and Training Center.

“On the surface, Goodwill Handy Helpers is a limited handyman service for those in need, but its aim is to foster feelings of independence and self-worth,” said Goodwill of South Central Ohio CEO Marvin Jones. “The program provides those with disabilities employment in the community where they can make connections with others, learn new skills, and showcase their abilities through personal interactions.”
