Chino Valley Youth Growers Club

Chino Valley Youth Growers Club Started as a safe place for neighborhood kids to come learn to do things from cooking to gardening, preservation, and just to grow their minds. No annual fees.

Now it’s not as busy as we once were, but our garden is always open. Founded by Bradley Barker and family. The Group provides a safe learning environment for children and families to take part in growing with their community. Bringing families and Community together. We want to show youths horticulture, Food Preparation, and handling, and local economy. Show them how taking pride in your work and your community for all to grow. Practicing self sustained urban homesteading.

We are parents who are trying to mange our children’s education, upbringing, and safety, all while trying to make ends meet! As we all know education budgets are constantly fading. It seems every year more cuts are made to our children’s education. We thought about giving them fun things to do and learn, but how can we do this and make it fun? The cost of other programs like 4H are too expensive and restricted. Camps are expensive and only short term. How do we manage to do all of this and keep cost down? Well that’s what brought our youth growers to existence. Founders Amore Cianciola, Dania Hindmarch, and Bradley Barker noticed how much our kids loved to see things grow. They love to understand how things work. They loved cooking with stuff we grew. We harvested seeds and have replanted them to grow the next season. This brought light to our children’s eyes when they took garden produce they grew, and made meals and preserves from them. We grew pumpkins and made pies and other great food from them, and of course jack-o‘-lanterns! We hold an annual Pumpkin-fest each year just before Halloween. We planted bulbs and bushes and watched them grow and get flowers. One of our children even grew watermelons and pumpkins in 2010 took 2nd place at the county fair with one of his watermelons and 1st place with one of his sugar pumpkins! We provide a safe fun environment for kids to learn. We teach them how to make gardens and flowerbeds with recycled or repurposed materials. We teach them how to plant and grow. We teach them how to care for their environment by going ‘Green’ by re-purposing materials, composting, recycling, rainwater harvesting, and more. We teach them basics of preserving their harvest and cooking, and how to support their community and their planet. We keep a membership with the arbor day foundation, and in turn they gave us trees to plant here! We have been operating off a non-existing budget and started by recycling and re-purposing items. We know how hard it is to support a family and keep kids entertained, as well as interested. That’s why this club provides FREE membership for our neighborhood kids! No membership fee to join. For the child to be a member they simply have to want to be a part of the team and put in time on our projects. The only thing we ask of you is to support the children’s hard work, ideas, and efforts. These are your neighborhoods, and your children. Lets grow together to keep it all safe and fun! Sincerely,
Bradley Barker
