There’s a point where a backyard stops being extra space and starts becoming the part of the property you use the most. Whether it’s enjoying a quiet morning outside, hosting friends and family, or simply having a place that feels finished, the right landscape design can completely change how a home feels day to day.

We’ve seen homeowners transform underused yards into outdoor living spaces with pavers, premium turf, landscape lighting, fire features, and custom gathering areas. The biggest difference usually isn’t one specific feature. It’s creating a layout that makes the space comfortable, functional, and easy to enjoy throughout the year.

A great backyard should feel like a natural extension of your home, not an afterthought. If you're curious what it might cost to create a space you'll actually use every day, get a quick estimate here: https://vist.ly/57jb7

We’ve been serving Prescott, Arizona and surrounding areas since 2009, but what really defines the work is the combined experience behind the team. With nearly 100 years of landscaping knowledge across design, installation, irrigation, and maintenance, the focus has always been on building outdoor spaces that actually hold up in real conditions, not just look good on day one.

What separates long-term landscaping work from quick installs is consistency in process. We invest heavily in training so every part of a project, from grading to plant selection to irrigation tuning, is handled with the same level of attention. In high desert environments like Prescott and nearby communities, that consistency matters more than almost anything else because small mistakes in soil prep or water management show up quickly over time.

The goal isn’t just completing projects, it’s building systems and outdoor environments that reflect real craftsmanship and long-term thinking. If you want a clearer idea of what a project like this might look like for your property, you can get started here: https://vist.ly/579sa

We’re at the Groom Creek project, and this is one of those builds that shows what a full-scale landscape transformation actually involves. From the driveway layout to irrigation planning and site-wide grading, every part of the property had to be designed and executed as one connected system rather than separate pieces.

This project took about 9 months and came in around 750,000 dollars. Most of the work is in the details that don’t stand out immediately, things like water management, soil preparation, utility coordination, and making sure each outdoor zone flows naturally into the next. When those elements are done right, the finished space feels simple, but there is a lot of planning underneath it.

We build projects across Prescott and surrounding areas with that same approach, focusing on long-term performance as much as appearance. If you want a clearer idea of what a project like this could look like for your property, you can get a quick estimate here: https://vist.ly/56z6m

This part of the project was all about connecting two functional zones while dealing with a real elevation change between the lower working area and the upper driveway. We used a quartzite flagstone walkway to create a natural, durable path that still feels consistent with the rest of the landscape.

To manage the grade difference, we installed a Versa-Lok segmental retaining wall. It’s a dry stack system that doesn’t use mortar. Instead, it relies on a compacted base, proper layering, and locking pins that hold everything together structurally. When it’s built correctly, it creates a strong retaining system that can handle a lot of lateral pressure from the soil behind it.

It’s a good example of how you can solve slope and access issues without overcomplicating the design. If you’re thinking about something similar for your own property and want a rough idea of cost, you can start here:

A lot of backyards stay the same for years not because people don’t want change, but because the first step never feels clear. Once you start looking at turf, pavers, lighting, irrigation, and layout together, it becomes obvious that a backyard upgrade is less about single features and more about how everything connects as one usable space.

We help homeowners across Prescott and surrounding Arizona areas turn unused or incomplete yards into functional outdoor environments. That usually starts with getting the grading, drainage, and irrigation right, then building in clean hardscape elements like pavers and pathways, and finishing with features that make the space comfortable and practical for everyday use.

When it’s designed and installed properly, a backyard becomes part of how you live, not just something you look at. If you want a quick idea of what your project might cost, you can start here: https://vist.ly/56grw

On walls like this, it’s not just about stacking stone. There’s a lot of structural work happening behind the scenes, which is why we had a special inspector approve each lift as it went up. Every stage matters, from how the base is set to how each course is cantilevered back into the slope.

Drainage is a big part of it too. If water gets trapped behind a wall, it creates pressure that can eventually push the structure out over time. That’s why proper backfill and drainage systems are built in as the wall goes up, not after the fact. The top is then finished in a way that locks everything together and gives it a clean, stable edge.

It’s one of those features that looks simple once it’s done, but there’s a lot of engineering involved to make sure it holds up long term. If you’re thinking about a project like this and want a rough idea of cost, you can start here:

A lot of homeowners in Prescott are going after that clean, low maintenance look with artificial turf, boulders, specimen trees, and decorative gravel. On the surface, it seems simple. But what most people don’t see is everything that goes into making it actually last, especially in a climate like Northern Arizona where soil, drainage, and temperature swings all play a role.

I’ve seen projects that look almost identical end up with completely different outcomes depending on how they were built underneath. W**d barrier, base prep, irrigation, and plant selection all matter more than people expect. If those details are skipped or rushed, the maintenance you were trying to avoid usually shows up later.

If you’re trying to figure out what a setup like this might cost for your own property, we put together an estimator so you can explore options without having to guess. You can check it out here:

This fireplace is probably the most involved feature in the whole backyard. What you see on the surface is just part of it. There’s over 20 yards of concrete just in the footing alone to support the structure, which gives you an idea of how much goes into building something like this the right way.

From there, everything is fully masonry, then finished with a mix of stone and brick to give it some character. We also had to run conduit through it so the homeowner could mount a TV and have power built in, which adds another layer of planning that most people don’t think about when they see the finished product.

It ends up becoming more than just a fireplace. It’s a central gathering spot that’s built to handle years of use without issues. If you’re thinking about adding something like this to your own space and want to understand what it might cost, you can start here:

Lighting is one of those things that doesn’t seem essential until you see it done right. Once the sun goes down, a well lit landscape completely changes how the space feels. Trees start to glow, focal points stand out, and the whole yard becomes usable in a way it just isn’t during the day.

What we focus on is enhancing the space without overlighting it. You still want to respect dark sky conditions while adding just enough light to create depth and visibility. It’s a balance between function and atmosphere, and when it’s dialed in, it extends how often you actually use your outdoor space.

There’s a pretty wide range when it comes to cost depending on the size of the project. We’ve done simpler setups around $3,500 and larger, more detailed systems up to $60,000. If you’re curious what something like this might look like for your property, you can start here:
