This outlet had obvious heat damage when we pulled it out.
That kind of burning or discoloration usually means something was going wrong behind the scenes — often a loose connection, arcing, or long-term overheating.
We replaced the damaged receptacle, corrected the wiring, and tested everything before finishing up.
Also worth knowing: an outlet is not always safe just because a plug tester says it is. Improper wiring, including a neutral-ground jumper, can sometimes make a basic tester read “correct” even when the outlet still is not wired safely.
If an outlet in your home feels warm, smells burnt, looks discolored, or quits working, do not keep using it like normal. Problems like this are exactly why electrical issues are worth catching early.
