On a recent walk in the cemetery near our office on Friday the 13th of June, I came upon a downed tree. Remarkably, I took a picture of the same tree 4 days ago and it looked fine. But unknown to me at the time, rot was lurking in a poor crotch angle.

I received a phone call yesterday from a close friend of one of our customers. They were were minutes away from leaving for vacation and were concerned about the creaking noise their Liriodendron was making when the wind blew.
I showed up shortly after the phone call to see a large crack between the two main leads.
Failure was imminent and we rearranged our schedule to have our team out there first thing this morning .
If caught earlier, the risk involved with this structural defect could have been mitigated with pruning and hardware .
The best time to have your trees assessed was yesterday. The second best time is today .
