Moving most of my wood down to Lancaster, KY, where my new shop is….here is a load of beams I have taken down.
Most of the work is getting nails out, especially the ones that lose their head…a combo of a vice grips and pry bar does the trick.
I also try to save the wooden pegs when possible….

The final pic shows all the nails that were taken out….

I know I haven’t posted for a while. We have had two moves, sold a house, bought a condo, and built a pole barn for my business.
Meanwhile, I have some of this 5 V roofing tin that I thought would make a good table surface if flattened out. So, Top Notch Sheet Metal in Newport was able to use a press to do the work!
Looking forward to see how this works out!

The last project completed while living at Chapel Heights- a flag case for my neighbor, a veteran, who passed away last year. It turned out great!

We are making a big 10’ x 4’ table for ourselves, from the red Anderson Barnwood. Although we are using the brown side, I had skip planed it all. Even though this is the underside, I think it would be a cool table to make for someone who likes the red vibe....First pic is unfinished, second is with one coat of poly.....

Now for the BIG table!
This was a 70” by 70”, 2” thick table. The client wanted to reuse the big legs they already have, but I made a new top and aprons.
This required finding 12 2” joist/crossbeam boards that were fairly straight, and cleaning up, planing the underside, then jointing 2 halves (each 6 boards wide). Then I ‘dry fitted’ the two halves with biscuits and Kreg screws, then cut the ends square and to length.
I then finished the two halves with poly, along with the aprons, then took them to the client’s house.
Luckily, she has two adult sons that were home from college break, and they helped to put together the base with me, then put the two halves together, and finally center in on the base before final screwing of the base to the top.
Like my big 11’ by 54” table, this is now a table not to be messed with!

Right before the end of the year, I did a lot of building for a client in Kentucky.
The first was restoring an old produce pull cart- the wheels were frozen, and wood in bad shape.
The second was building a shelving unit out of angle iron and 2” thick joists. This was the largest shelving unit I have built.
Both turned out great, and the client was very happy! I also did a third project for her that I will write up separately.....

A friend had three printers boxes/shadow boxes that she wanted to make into tables for her three children. I welded angle iron to make three tables where the boxes just stopped into. They can stay as end tables, or be removed to hang up again.
It was a fun little project to fit in between other projects, and keep me active on my welding skills.

Sometimes, I am able to get creative with different media, and where form can follow function. A customer had some cast iron from a train station bench, and wanted an end table made from that. So, turned the iron on its end, fastened to a customized base, then made a top for it. It turned out great!

We reclaim all types of wood, not just Barnwood. I have a friend that was taking up a wood floor from the early 1900s in a house on Glendale. Given it was tongue and groove, I volunteered to bring over my pallet deconstruction tool (blue tool in first picture) to minimize damage.

We got done with the room in about one hour-he was amazed! And I got some more good wood to sell for accent walls or tables.... and even reclaimed some cut nails!
