I had another request for an “Alabama” shawl. This time when I searched through my yarn stash for the colors I needed, I noticed that I had ‘sparkle yarn’ in red, white, black and gray and it was enough to keep a continuous thread of sparkle running through the entire shawl. Therefore, this shawl has been appropriately named “Bama Sparkle.” You’ll be able to see the sparkle in the pictures.

Bama Heat is a commissioned item for one of my favorite customers and will be a Christmas gift to her sweet mom. This year for Valentine's Day, I decided to give to my kids according to what their Love Language is ( in addition to their candy and treats, of course). One of my kid's love language is Acts of Service, so I surprised him with an organized closet and bookcase. Here are the before and after pictures.

Since the pandemic hit, I haven't really been promoting my organizing business. However, doing this little organizing project for my son reminded me how much I love it and miss it. Today was my first day back at work, since the pandemic hit, doing what I love to do, ORGANIZING!! It was such a great feeling to be clearing off dining room tables again! In the process, my client found several items that she'd been looking for and also found some happy surprises of things she'd forgotten about. I wanted to share with all of you parents a super simple chore chart idea that I like to use when the kids are home from school for extended periods of time, like the current Stay at Home order. All you need is pen and paper.

Each night before you go to bed, or first thing in the morning, simply make a list of chores that need to be done. To determine the length of your list, think about how many chores you want each child to do, multiply by the number of children and add a few extra jobs. Draw a line to the right of each chore and let the kids choose by writing their name on the line.

There are many fun ways to decide who gets first pick. The methods I use most often are youngest to oldest and first one out of bed in the morning. I always have a few extra chores, so that even the last child has a choice. Then I write my own name in the remaining blanks. You can encourage your children to choose things they don't know how to do yet and you can be there to teach them. This is a great way to give them an opportunity to learn and practice important life skills.

Always have some kind of time limit. For example, "Finish your chores before lunch" or "No screen time until chores are done". You can reward them for their work as you see fit. I have older teens and they earn discounts on their monthly phone bill for doing their chores.

Big messes can be overwhelming, even for me. Sometimes it's hard to envision a functional organized space at the start of an organizing project. It may seem like the only way to clear off one space is to move the pile of clutter to another space. However, it never ceases to amaze me how well my system works. Time after time, project after project; when I'm finished, the designated space is clean and organized and all of that clutter is nowhere in sight!

I am using all of this extra time at home, while practicing social distancing, to work on some of my own organizing projects. It is truly a wonderful feeling each time I'm finished with another area. I know that when I need something, I'll be able to find it.

We are all navigating uncharted territory these days, as we do our best to follow the recommendations given by the experts. I realize that many people across the country are self isolating at home. It reminds me of being snowed in, except with electricity! We have long days, good weather and good health, for the most part. It's an excellent time to tackle home projects, like organizing!

Although social distancing doesn't allow me to go to homes and organize right now, I want to make myself available for live phone consultations. In the featured organizing project for this ad, the client imagined that the reason the clothes were on the floor was because they wouldn't all fit in the dresser. Therefore, we found the shelves and had already planned to paint them and fit them with cubby boxes, to hold all of the extra clothes. However, after we applied my quick and easy system to her clothes, we found that there were many she didn't want to wear anymore and everything fit in the dresser. Her new challenge is to find things to put on her beautiful new shelves. Not a bad problem to have.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jenifer Liveoak and I love to organize things. The summer after high school graduation, I received a clear calling on my life to become a Stay at Home Mom. Eighteen months later, I got married and five years after that I became a Mommy. By the time my oldest was ten, I had six children. Therefore, all of my experience, credentials and references are based on 25 years of managing the messes, meals and schedules of a very active family of eight.

I home schooled my children for seven years before enrolling them into public school. It's been a wonderful busy time with each of them involved in extracurricular activities. As I continued to be a Stay at Home Mom, I worked together with my kids doing various fund raisers to help pay for their braces, sports, cheerleading, and tumbling classes. We have raked leaves, harvested and sold fruits, veggies and pecans, held bake sales, blanket and scarf sales, we have fed chickens and we have organized big messes for people.

I loved the organizing SO MUCH that when the time became right to start my own business, I knew that's what I wanted to do!

I use a Clean Sweep approach to quickly organize an area. When I'm finished, it will be clean, purged of clutter, look nice and be functional. My clients make decisions about what to keep, toss or donate/sell as we go through the process. I have successfully used this technique in my home for many years. Sometimes I will suggest an organizational product, as I did in the project pictured in this post. By arranging the art supplies into the three stacked drawers, we were able to get them off the floor.

Organizing has been a life long habit for me. When I was in elementary school, I stayed with a friend for a week, while my parents were gone on a trip. I have a vivid memory of removing all of her t-shirts from her dresser, folding them and putting them back in the drawer, neatly stacked. When we stayed with my in-laws for a week long visit, I organized her refrigerator and her grocery bag cabinet. On a trip to my sister's house, I organized a pantry cabinet for her. I've always enjoyed creating order and making space.

However, even though I'm fully capable of organizing any messy space, about 18 months ago, I realized that I needed some help with my own home. I hired a professional organizer to evaluate my situation with a fresh perspective, then we worked together to repurpose several rooms and pieces of furniture. She gave me and my family homework assignments to do before she returned. It was a huge project that we would have never finished that quickly without her help.

I said all of that to say this... I've been on both sides of the situation. I can say from personal experience, that I highly recommend hiring a professional organizer if you've got places in your home that aren't fully functional because of clutter or because they just aren't being used to their full potential. My empty loft space is now a welcome retreat for my college student, when he's home on break. My former junk room is now a comfortable guest room. Extra, unused dressers, now hold blankets, video games and my yarn stash.
