A love affair…!

Watching the goslings grow so quickly is quite interesting. It’s reminding me that transformation isn’t subtle. It’s feathers where there weren’t any. It’s bald & blind spots. It’s sometimes stumbling & bumbling as we find our footing. It’s foraging for nourishment. It’s showing up fuller than yesterday. This is the work.
They came in all soft and uncertain. Now they’re becoming all neck and confidence.
I’ve sat with enough souls to know, that’s exactly how it goes.

Fireflies By Mary Oliver

At Blackwater
fireflies
are not even a dime a dozen–
they are free,

and each floats and turns
among the branches of the oaks
and the swamp azaleas
looking for another

as, who doesn’t?
Oh, blessings
on the intimacy
inside fruition,

be it foxes
or the fireflies
or the dampness inside the petals
of a thousand flowers.

Though Eden is lost
its loveliness
remains in the heart
and the imagination;

he would take her
in a boat
over the dark water;
she would take him

to an island she knows
where the blue flag grows wild
and the grass is deep,
where the birds

perch together,
feather to feather,
on the bough.
And the fireflies,

blinking their little lights,
hurry toward one another.
And the world continues,
God willing.

————— She’s a Favorite of mine and this is what came to mind as Lumen and I sat here, next to the lake, watching the reflections dance & dart across the branches for a fleeting moment. Feeling grateful for water and air & the springtime company of each other and nature. And some rain finally! My garden is infatuated with the rain and simply must get MORE please. Especially since it’s trying to get all tropical summer heat out there already. Whew.

This is an excellent nervous system reset. any one of these acts alone would be. Combining them all together, pure bliss.
Sitting in nature.
Eyes gazing upward.
Feet on the earth.
Breathing calmly.
Listening. We were being sung to!
Watching something that brings delight. (We adore the reflections of the lake water in all the various ways we get to experience it)
Holding hands w a loved one.
Poetry & Beauty.

Find yourself a shady lil sit spot in nature and reset a bit. Whether you can do 1 min or 20, you deserve it and it will reward you in so many ways. 🫂

Guess what happened over the weekend yall!! Gertie & Luis FINALLY had dem babies! Whew. Lumen and I had been timing them and they were Definitely overdue for ‘normal’ standards of goslings. They brought them in the yard the very first day and every day since. Next to all of the 3 other families whose goslings are bonafide teenagers now, these are so teeny and so sweet. They permit us to watch them some and will come near and stay around while I’m gardening and even when Sam’s been using the w**d eater. It really melts my soul with gladness that they feel safe here.

I had to look up what it means in tradition and lore to have this happen and this is what the internets told me and I liked it enough to share it with y’all:
There’s a meaningful distinction between an animal that passes through and one that stays, nests, and raises young on your land. That’s closer to a land ally or place guardian than a fleeting totem encounter or even just because we happen to live in an ideal place for them.

Goose as power animal/totem: geese are one of the primary shamanic symbols of the soul’s journey. Teaching me about reciprocity, shared burden, and showing up for my people from the ways they fly and work in partnership.

In many Indigenous North American traditions, geese are messengers and navigators —they know when to move, when to stay, and how to find their way home. A goose nesting on your land is sometimes seen as a sign of protection, loyalty, and homecoming — geese mate for life and defend their young fiercely. (How sweet! I certainly want our home and my sacred spaces and clients to feel those things)

In Celtic traditions, geese were guardians of the threshold between worlds — their honking was thought to announce spiritual visitors or signal that something sacred was near.(holy cow, we live on a very active portal then! 😱🤣)

In Egyptian mythology, the goose laid the cosmic egg from which the sun was born — so geese are deeply tied to creation and new beginnings. (There’s been a whole lotta that around here, for me personally, my business and groups, the garden & of course my clients)
Kinda fun.
& BABIES ARE JUST SO FUN!!

We watched a great blue heron sunning this morning, wings thrown open like an altar. It always cracks me up, their shape is so simultaneously awkward and powerful. In many traditions, heron medicine is about patience, stillness, and the wisdom to stand at the threshold between worlds; between water and land, seen and unseen. It’s the same threshold I hold space at in my practice. Today seeing this felt like a reminder. 🌞🪶

Pretty adorable to wake up and look out to my certified wildlife habitat this morning and see it’s being utilized as the nursery for so many goslings! I counted 12 babies and 4 parents.
The nest in the yard remains unhatched but should emerge any day now….
Being trusted like this feels very special.

Yesterday I posted about the land certification and today the garden called me out in the loudest possible ways to celebrate. Like the land felt jazzed by being honored and recognized!!!

I filled my basket. Then filled it again and again. Returning over and over to the drying room. Then filled my entire drying room up! And somewhere in the middle of all that playing in the lemon balm & carefully moving around the stinging nettles & motherwort, deeply inhaling the tulsi, spearmint & lavender, & gently caressing the California poppy & chamomile, and those very first zinnias of the year making their soft little debut, I filled something in myself too. And the garden taught me a few things about each of us, as often happens when the plants have so much to say!
The land celebrated & gave today. Gave big.

I used to wonder how anyone ever grew enough lemon balm to make tea all year. Now I know. And it’s only the first harvest of the season.

This is what it looks like when you grow your own medicine. When you know every plant & are in relationship with the plants and the land. When you harvest by hand, dry in a room that smells like an absolute dream, and then sit with each batch and send it Reiki and healing frequencies before it ever reaches another person.
The plants remember all of it. And so does your body when you drink them or use them in any way.
My teas & products are filled with plants grown here, by my hands, harvested at peak vitality, and cared for the whole way through - from soil to product/medicine to you. No middleman. No mystery. Just deeply tended medicine that started as a seed and ended as something you can hold, utilize and actually feel making a shift in your body, mind & life.

Soil to soul. First harvest of the season. Many more to come. I AM SO GRATEFUL.
What a generous bounty! 🙇‍♀️🌍🙏🌱🎈🌻
