Dahlia season is beginning.🌸 All the hard work of digging up tubers last fall, storing them, dividing them, inspecting them, sprouting them, potting them and finally in the ground in May. I found my first buds today and I was like a giddy little girl on Christmas morning.
Rock Run Ashley dahlia is an early bloomer.
Today will be filled with placing individual drippers for each one. We have 3 100 ft rows with dahlias planted every 18 inches on each side of the row. This year we tried our best to place them by color. Each dahlia is labeled and then a photo attached and another label in the ground next to base of stalk. I know that sounds like overkill, but we are strict with keeping them labeled correctly. Wind happens, animals ( Bella Marie is the worst lol) and tags can easily be misplaced.
I can't wait to start having enough to make bouquets and help with wedding flowers, and other special occasions.

I was starting to clean out the spring bulb beds and found these two treasures. They were hiding. It was such a nice surpise to see them. It is always hard for me to watch the green and vibrant colors of the tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculous turn brown and sad looking, but it is so important for them to soak up the energy for next years blooms. I still have a couple weeks to let them finish up, but at least I will get some of the fast growing weeds out of there.
