So let me tell y’all about THIS job…. I have named it the “Lead House”.
After a day and a half of dry sanding the wrought iron, I realized I was dealing with lead paint. Why didn’t I realize it at first? Good question. It’s because I have never seen it in person, after 25 years in the business! The homeowner added on a piece of trim over the front door and I immediately knew it was lead bc of the “alligator” cracking. So I went to Lowe’s, got the test, and yep. Lead paint. Lots of it. 🤦♀️
I left the jobsite, threw away my clothes, left my boots outside, called poison control, and got a blood test at my doctor. I only had a 2 and it needs to be 3.5 to be treated, so luckily it didn’t affect me. We will retest in a couple of months.
Did I throw in the towel? Nope! I wore my best PPE and went to work.
I finished sanding, got a lead blocking primer from Benjamin Moore to encapsulate the lead(only 4 gallons in the state of Tennessee exist), then topcoated with an oil based high gloss by Sherwin.
Oh, I sanded and painted the original wood window also. 40 frames. 40!!! 💪
Turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. 🤗🙃💪
