As the month of May comes to an end and we wrap up on International Door Safety Month, we would like to point out some safety reminders📍

As a homeowner, you can perform simple garage door safety and maintenance checks. If you’re unsure or uncomfortable, always call a trained technician.

Here’s your monthly garage door safety checklist:

1️⃣ Tell someone first. Let others know you’re working on the garage door so no one uses it.

2️⃣ Visual inspection. With the door closed, check springs, cables, rollers, and hardware for wear or damage—especially frayed cables.

3️⃣ Balance test. Disconnect the opener. Lift the door manually—it should move smoothly and stay open. If not, it may be unbalanced.

4️⃣ Reversing mechanism test. Place a 2x4 in the door’s path. It should reverse upon contact. If it doesn’t, service is needed.

5️⃣ Photo eye test. Close the door and wave a broomstick in front of the sensors. The door should reverse. If not, clean and realign sensors and retest.

6️⃣ Force setting test. As the door closes, use your hands under the path. If it doesn’t reverse easily, the force is too strong and needs adjustment.

7️⃣ Lubricate twice a year. Apply spray lubricant to hinges, rollers, and tracks.

💡 If your opener was made before 1993 and lacks a reverse mechanism or photo eye, it’s time for an upgrade!

Stay safe.
