Janiya Johnson, a sophomore wrestler at Kirkwood High, who just recently won the 155lb national championship, has been invited to the Who’s Number One (WNO) wrestling event in Pennsylvania to compete among some of the best in the nation.

Today marks the start of the Olympics! As many of us know, Montgomery County was home to Olympic legend Wilma Rudolph. She competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia when she was sixteen. Rudolph was the youngest team member, and with her teammates, the American team won the bronze medal. Upon returning to Tennessee, Rudolph began training to win the gold medal in the next Olympics.

During the qualifiers for the 1960 Olympics, Rudolph set the world record for the 200-meter dash. While at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Rudolph won two gold medals, becoming the first American woman to win the 100-meter race since 1936. Later that week, Rudolph and her team won 4 x 100-meter relays after almost famously dropping the baton.

Upon returning to Clarksville, Rudolph insisted her victory parade be the first fully integrated municipal event.

A porch remodel and extension with new Gutters for a Woman Veteran 🇺🇸. Clarksville job by Tennova. Mrs. Teresa was having issues with her older porch. We reinforced it and added new gutters and downspouts to redirect the rain away from her walking path.
