At our meeting today, Thursday, September 26, 2024, Clayton Rotary Club President Randy Berry asked who in our Club was either a mentor, had been a mentee, or currently is a mentee of the Launch JoCo Program and asked those people to go up to the front of the room. Member Douglas McClentic, a Launch JoCo Mentor, talked a little about Launch JoCo and its benefits for those starting a business. For those not in the know, Launch JoCo is the Clayton Chamber of Commerce (CCOC) initiative to support and develop entrepreneurs and small businesses in Johnston County by providing access to business training, micro-loans, mentoring, and networking for free.

One of Rotary's seven areas of focus is to promote community economic development, and Launch JoCo certainly falls under that category. Our Club is a proud sponsor of the Launch JoCo program. President Randy Berry presented a check to Past President and CCOC President/CEO Dana Bales Wooten for $4,000 from our Club.
(L) to (R) - Member Douglas McClentic, Past President Dana Wooten, member Stuart Denham, Club Sergeant-at-Arms Joe Russotto, member Artem Lopatchenko, member Josh Apple, Club Secretary/President Nominee Greg Adamson, member Scott Wooten, and President Randy Berry.

So this was a totally unexpected surprise today. Imagine my amazement when I saw this post and thought the building in the picture on the left looked really familiar. With a quick look into our archives I confirmed that it was a design I did for the buildings renovation back in 2016. I guess you never know where we will turn up! I have no connection what so ever to the building in the picture on the right nor the company the original post is about. I will post a better picture and the rendering I did for this project in the comments below. Have a fantastic day!

Nothing beats a satisfied customer testament of service.

How cool it is when you are an Architect and you find a building with your name on it that was built in 1882?

We found the following information on findagrave.com when we did a google search.

In 1882 Otis.F. McClentic built the structure at 23-25 North Franklin Street. He operated a dry goods store here; this was previously the location of Henry Church Sr's home, which was moved to Hall St. In 1901 the building was purchased and the store run by Austin H. Church and Asa Brewster. Renamed Brewster and Church, it operated as a general department store until 1963.

We have no clue if there is any relation between us and Otis McClentic but we have seldom seen people with the same last name spelled the same way outside of relatives.

This may require a road trip to visit the building and do some research some time in the future.

We hope everyone is healthy, happy and having fun.
