Composting is more simple than people think. There are of course some key things to understand but once you know the basics you can recycle your garden clippings into beautiful compost.
The first bay of this three bin system is all the non woody trimmings and non aggressive weeds from the 2025 growing season. It once filled two bins and will continue to shrink as it decomposes.
Sometime come spring I will spread it back on my client’s garden. Meanwhile the two, now very full since the photo, full bins will decompose and possibly be ready next fall.
The key in our dry climate is chopping up the debris, keeping it watered, the microbes need water to live and do their work, and occasionally turning it to make sure it has oxygen in all parts. For food scraps I encourage using closed bins that critters can’t get into.
