It’s Michael Graves’s birthday today (he would have been 91), and he’s being remembered by both admirers and critics across the architecture world.

If only he hadn’t married postmodernism…

Graves really did have two careers: early on, he was a rigorous member of the New York Five — all about pure modernist formalism. Then he pivoted, boldly embracing color, ornament, ‘historical’ references, and that whole whimsical postmodern language. For some, that shift felt like a betrayal of modernism’s ideals.

It’s fascinating to imagine what might have been if he’d stayed a modernist...

This modern minimalist home in Clearwater prioritizes clarity and spatial intent over excess, fully aligning with our client's vision and with our studio’s approach.

The design explores the interplay of solid and void, interior and exterior, light and shadow. Proportion, clean lines and intentional simplicity, guide the composition of spaces and forms.

Set on a 52x127 lot, the home is a one-story, 2,000-square-foot residence with a 1½-story living and dining area at its heart. The layout is compact yet open, designed to feel expansive and connected to its surroundings.

With concept design phase completed, we are now moving into final design and construction documents.

We’re grateful for clients who value thoughtful, enduring architecture and excited to see this home come to life.

This is not an 'unfinished' drawing, though it may appear that way at first glance.

In fact, it’s one of my preferred studies during the design process.

By focusing solely on the fundamental elements that define architectural space—walls, openings, roof and lintel projections, and selected floor lines—it offers exceptional clarity for spatial analysis: form, proportion, direction, movement, rhythm, and other essential qualities.

This stripped-down floor plan, free from furniture, details, dimensions, and annotations, eliminates visual noise and distraction—allowing space to be sculpted with intention.

It’s a powerful tool for designers and architects to perceive, visualize, and create space in its purest form."

This new home in Clearwater was conceived through a modern minimalist lens—prioritizing clarity and spatial intent over excess, which fully aligns with our client's vision and with our own.

The design explores the relationship between solid and void, interior and exterior, and the interplay of light and shadow. Proportion and intentional simplicity guide the composition of spaces and forms, allowing natural light to define and highlight the architecture throughout the day. The result is a calm, purposeful environment that quietly elevates everyday living.

Set on a 52x127 lot, the home is a one-story, 2,000-square-foot residence with a 1½-story living and dining area at its heart. The layout is compact yet open, designed to feel expansive and connected to its surroundings. Clean lines, natural light, and seamless transitions between indoors and out give the home a grounded, livable elegance—true to our studio’s approach.

We’ve just completed the concept design phase and are now moving into final design and construction documents. Building permits are next, with construction scheduled to begin this summer. We’re grateful for clients who value thoughtful, enduring architecture and excited to see this home come to life.

The Everson Museum of Art, completed in 1968 and designed by I.M. Pei, marks a pivotal moment in modernist architecture. Pei's first museum commission, this structure in downtown Syracuse, New York, redefines the role of a museum, transforming it into a monumental sculpture that integrates form and function. Its innovative design challenges traditional museum layouts, reflecting the evolving ideals of modern art. The building's geometric forms and concrete materiality emphasize its role not just as a space for art, but as an art piece itself.
