Always something different in this business. A couple ongoing projects:
The first is a first for me, a conversion of a 2018 Ford Transit. Treated sleepers and insulation on the floor, covered by 3/4” tongue-and-groove plywood for a sub-floor. I am building two custom cabinets in the rear, both will have piano-hinged lids, one with an additional section that flips down to connect the two into a bed.

The second project is a renovation of a fireplace. The existing extra-long mantle was dated looking, and will be replaced with a more contemporary mantle, beefy and rectangular, a sort of Scandinavian inspired design. The hearth was demolished, the room is going to be tiled. The new tile face on the front will be a cultured stone that looks like quartz bricks, and will go all the way from floor to ceiling. This sad porch overhang shows what even a small leak in a roof can do to the framing below over time. The home’s roof was replaced a few years ago, but the deteriorated overhang was beginning to fall off of the house and needed to be rebuilt. The renovation took four work days, and we stayed on the job until it was completed and the customer was happy. Here are some before, during, and after shots of the transformation. The highest quality craftsmanship at reasonable prices!

The coolest things about working in remodeling and home improvement ate the variety of projects we get to do, and also the solving of problems that arise on projects. This customer needs a new floor installed in his personal observatory. The existing plywood and treated wood flooring has rotted in spots. The concrete pad below was never sealed and has been wicking water molecules, and the treated framing did not allow for enough air flow. The existing rubber interlocking mats held the moisture down and accelerated the wood rot.
Solution: The concrete pad will be sealed and the new sub flooring members will be installed with spacing between members to allow for substantial air flow. The new floor will be painted in an epoxy with grip articulate mixed in to prevent it from ever being slippery to walk on, and the rubber mats will be eliminated.
