"Pretty as a Springtime Garden in England"... except this pretty Garden is in Independence.

Fresh and Loverly this is.. not a wistful wish of Wouldn't it be.....

We employed a liberal dose of an undulating Chinoiserie pattern by Thibaut throughout the room in both wallcovering and fabrics. It's patternings, colorations and motifs of flora & fauna provide the springboard for the room's design aesthetic.
Overhead the ceiling floats as a clear cloudless Springtime sky while the sepias of the natural woven blinds represent the soil. All the Highland House & Century Furniture upholstery dons a mantle of apple blossom whites. Accent pillows and throw blankets echo those of the flowers, needles, leaves & cones which follow suit as does the decor glass, ceramics & Art. Linens, velvets, chenilles & boucles enhance the tactile senses. Antiques such as the unique pair of flat back Italian tole paint buffet lamps with twining vines of porcelain flowers provide nuance, depth and historical continuity. A pair of large French wire Crystal table lamps from Global Views & singular crystal Lillian August lamp impart a thoroughly modern twist. Sense and Sensuality combines to achieve this idyllic, and unabashedly Loverly assemblage. All paints and trims Benjamin Moore, ceiling hue custom color. All fabric trims are Samuel & Sons. The Entry Hall's in Sheep Shape 🐑 🐑 🐑🐑🐑!
( with a tongue-in-cheek homage to Francois -

As a ubiquitous symbol of the English Countryside and Country House style (🐑) greets every guest with unabashed Elan eliciting their smiles & bemusing chuckles as well as lifting their spirits; welcoming by charming one and all with his forthright stoic presence!
Evoking the aura of a blossoming, blooming English garden the two story Entry Hall basks day-long with beautiful natural light. This sunlit space feels like an orangerie, a greenhouse or garden room. Nestled into the Staircase corner sits a Louis XVI style curve back settee by Paul Robert upholstered with an easy care yet softly textured performance fabric. A pair of square accent pillows in Thibaut Katsura linen provide a hint to the lush springtime chinoiserie motif which is expanded upon throughout the upcoming rooms on the main floor.
The center pillow sports Cowtan & Touts epingle Lynx velvet. A translucent blue glass side table is from Terrain and on the wall behind an antique 19th c. Italian tole floral sconce is flanked by a pair of antique French matted English landscape prints of country houses. Atop this compostion is a new circular mirror made in Italy with a gesso frame in the Louis XVI style that received a coordinating custom finish.
This vignette establishes the stylistic visual base which proceeds to connect the lower entry hall to the upper Entry hallway as the viewer's eyes are drawn upwards into the "well" of this 2 story space illuminated by a gilt iron chandelier from John Richard that has just a touch of crystal "Bling". Throughout the home collections of Antique prints are juxtaposed with "Modern" ceramics, glassware and larger format Paintings.
The view from the top while descending the staircase reveals the composition of the green Entry Hall Door with side light panels with an exaggerated lentel crown ledge, surmounted by a transom. Crowning the well wall above the transom is a nearly 60" diameter circular mirror in the neoclassical style with antique mirror surface. (Note the diffused,subtle reflection of the chandelier in the mirror) Finally upon the tiled floor (we retained the original tiles) flanking the door are a pair of rusticated finish wire urns on stands filled with (seasonally interchangeable) late Springtime floral displays and between them a jute entry mat woven in a twisted knot pattern. "Well that's a Pretty Picture": like the beauty of Springtime in England. ... .our homeowner/client's primary request.... Pretty without being Precocious or Precious.

Visually connecting the Lower Entry Hall, the Staircase & the Upper Hallway. AThe cavernous and odd shape to this space presented challenges. The ceilings reaching 18' high & a double staircase creating two staircase " wells" are examples of the challenges. Aesthetically we decided this space should become a subtle introduction to & hint at the overall colors & patterns employed yet to come throughout the rooms of the home. We developed the design with the Entry Hall's curving Louis XVI style settee setting the stage with it's 3 accent pillows covered in fabrics representing the home's primary fabric & wallcovering patterns and colorways. Over the last 3 years we painstakingly acquired antique framed prints featuring flowers & country house landscapes, vintage and modern ceramics from Italy, Portugal etal (some whose shapes & raised surfaces iterate flowers, leaves & petals) and a large contemporary floral abstract painting.

Simplement Chic et Classique !

Christine & Larry have made this composition which we devised their own by incorporating a passion for orchids into the scheme. These brilliant fuschia color blooms dispayed in blue & white planters & placed at the floor between the legs of the console provide a counterpoint & balance to the colors of the central flower motifs in the blue & white plates above the mirror frame. Placed in the center upon the console's marble top is their Atmos clock which is flanked by a pair of crystal pillar candleholders along with a pair of triple tier topiaries in footed blue & white cachepots with gilt metal mounts.

A pair of Paul Robert swivel chairs with tasseled accent pillows in Thibaut Katsura linen fabric, cylindre bolsters in Cowtan & Tout epingle velvet. Custom made castered ottomàn with tufted top. The window is dressed with pleated panels in Thibaut Katsura linen with Samuel & Sons velvet tape trim and a Horizons natural grass shade. The central wall mural is again Thibaut's Katsura pattern wallcovering. The white lacquer console is from Modern History: atop sits a pair of Visual Comfort lamps, a branching blossoms watergarden arrangement from Allstate Floral. The lower shelf reveals a green Italian marble footed bowl, mirror glass orbs & Moss urns by K&K Interiors. Staffordshire Dog ceramic & white enamel & gilt wood wall bracket by Chelsea House grace the opposite wall. Vintage Chelsea House framed prints of Classical garden urns, plus a monumental Antique white with gilt frame Louis XVI style mirror on the wall behind the clients' gorgeous ebony baby grand piano which commands the room.
