My first strawberries of the season šŸ“ talk about seasonal eating at it's finest!

Last year I barely harvested any because I needed to thin and renovate the bed, so finding these little beauties ready felt extra exciting.

I was hoping to have my first long-form Substack video up already, but life had other plans when I discovered my microphone wasn't working šŸ˜… Thankfully that's all fixed now, and I'm hoping to have my first garden tour video posted within the next few days.

In the meantime, I'm celebrating strawberries amongst my other harvests! I do keep them covered with AgFabric so I get them, not the birds or critters šŸ˜‰

Are you growing strawberries this year? Or do you have plans to visit any local U-pick farms this season? šŸ“

I would love to show you a photo of the delicious stir fry I made fresh from the garden with bok choy, tatsoi, mizuna, Dill and chives… and some regular ingredients…but I gobbled that down so fast!

So instead, here's a photo of my car packed up earlier today for a Custom Planting Day for one of my favorite clients! And of course, my Giselle along for the day, she's a great supervisor šŸ¾šŸ’– And the ā€œafter planting"… it always looks so empty at first but I know in a few weeks plants will grow rapidly and the garden will continue to produce 🄬

This morning I harvested bok choy and lettuce from my Spring Cool Season Garden and realized it was the perfect day to finally begin something new...

I officially launched my Substack today — a slower, more grounded space for conversations around gardening, herbalism, seasonal living, intuition, midlife evolution, and creating a life that actually feels aligned.

Honestly, it already feels like a huge exhale compared to trying to fit everything into short-form content all the time.

Less performance.
More depth.
More rhythm.
More real conversations.

If that resonates with you, here's the link to my first article! I would love to have you follow along and subscribe, it's truly an amazing platform and I can't wait to see all that blossoms there, pun intended!

This is one of those things people don’t realize until they experience it. Plants aren’t just plants. Where they come from matters.

Many big box store plants:

• are shipped across the country

• are grown for mass production—not local timing

• sit in trays too long before you buy them-hello root bound

Which means you’re starting behind.

When you choose locally grown plants?

They’re:

āœ” grown for THIS climate

āœ” timed for THIS exact planting window

āœ” stronger from the start

And when you combine that with:

šŸ‘Proper planting timing

šŸ‘Good soil conditions

šŸ‘That’s when things actually take off.

You don’t need to overcomplicate it. You just need to start with the right foundation. Comment SUMMER if you want to do that this year.

If you’ve been thinkingā€¦ā€œI feel like I’m behind this yearā€ Heck, May's weather keeps throwing us around in a weird weather loopšŸ˜†

But good news, you’re not. This is actually exactly when this part of gardening happens. Early May is not about planting everything.

It’s about preparing:

• choosing the right plants

• getting your layout in mind

• making sure you’re ready when soil temps rise

Because warm season crops: Tomatoes, Peppers, Cucumbers, Squash, Basil...

DO NOT LIKE COLD SOIL!

They thrive when planted at the right time—not early. That’s why I open ordering now…So you’re ready when it matters.

Orders close May 22 → and that window comes quickly.

One of the biggest gardening myths I hear every year in Northeast Ohio is this: ā€œDon’t plant anything until Mother’s Day.ā€

That advice is meant to protect warm-season crops from frost—but it often causes people to miss an entire part of the growing season. Because spring gardening doesn’t start in mid-May. It starts much earlier.

Crops like lettuce, spinach, kale, arugula, herbs, and many flowers actually prefer cooler temperatures. They thrive in what’s called the Spring Cool Season—when days are getting longer, but temperatures are still mild.

These photos? This garden was planted in April.

And now, at the beginning of May, it’s already full, growing, and ready to be harvested—weeks before warm-season crops even go into the ground.

This is why understanding seasonal timing matters so much.

Because when you plant with the season instead of waiting for it to ā€œfeel right,ā€ you extend your harvest, increase your productivity, and get so much more out of your space.

And the best part?

While this garden is producing right now, I’m already preparing for the next phase—planting my warm-season crops in mid to late May.

This is how a garden works with the seasons, not against them.

ToHi everyone, a lot of new followers here šŸ¤ I figured there’s no better time to introduce or reintroduce myself. Whether you stumbled across my page, saw the live TV segment on Friday, or found me through a collaboration, WELCOME 🌿✨

I’m Kelly, the founder of a Cleveland-based kitchen garden consultancy, reconnecting people with their food and the rhythm of the seasons.

I design and install productive, beautiful kitchen gardens—but more importantly, I teach people how to grow confidently beyond what they’ve been told is possible. Most people think gardening starts in late spring and ends in early fall… and I love showing them how much more there is.

There’s something really grounding about helping people slow down, pay attention, and grow something real again.

On a more personal note…here's some of the woo woo parts of me ✨⚔

Astrologically, I’m a Cancer Sun, Leo Moon, and Aries Rising… which means I’m equal parts nurturing, expressive, and ā€œlet’s just go for it and figure it out along the way.ā€ šŸ˜„

Within Human Design, I’m a 2/4 Sacral Generator, which honestly explains so much about how I move through life and business—I’m deeply intuitive, community-driven, and I really trust that gut ā€œyesā€ when something feels aligned.

Life outside of the garden looks like:

I’m a proud child-free single woman (very much by choice and very happy in it), but a devoted dog mom to my 12-year-old German Shepherd, Giselle—who has absolutely been my steady anchor through all seasons of life.

I love:

⭐Cooking (especially when it starts from the garden)
⭐Reading
⭐Traveling to spend time with family
⭐Spending quality time with my close circles of friends

And honestly, just being in my space and creating a life that feels really aligned and intentional
This past year has stretched me in ways I didn’t expect—but also grounded me even more in what I do and why it matters.

Helping people grow their own food isn’t just about gardening…It’s about connection, confidence, and creating something that actually supports your life.

I’m here for you, reach out when you feel called to, about anything ⭐😊

I was back on New Day Cleveland sharing what’s actually happening in the garden right now—and why so many people are rushing into their summer garden way too early.

We talked about:

• What’s thriving in the cool season garden

• Why you don’t need to wait until Mother’s Day

• The biggest mistake I see gardeners making this time of year

• And how to transition into warm season the right way

This is the kind of timing that changes everything.

If you’ve ever planted something and thought, ā€œWhy isn’t this working?ā€ā€¦ this will click.

✨ You can watch the segments a few different ways:

– Check my stories for the link

– Comment WATCH and I’ll DM it to you

– It’ll be included in my Saturday email

– Or head to the In the Media page on my website

šŸ‘‰ When you click to watch, the first segment is with Natalie—then scroll down for the second segment with David.

Let me know when you watch—I’d love to hear what stood out to you šŸ’š

There’s a moment in gardening where everything feels quiet.

āœ…You’ve planted.

ā“The beds don’t look full yet.

šŸ¤”Nothing looks impressive.

And if you didn’t know better…You might think nothing is happening.

But this is where the magic is. Because gardening isn’t just about what you see right now. It’s about what you know is coming.

In a few weeks, this space will be full of food.

And it all started here. With timing. With intention.

With planting in the right season.

If you want to build a garden like this…
