🐛 Swallowtail Caterpillar vs. Pine Needle!
This little warrior is a Swallowtail caterpillar, and that orange, forked organ it’s showing us is called an osmeterium.
When threatened, the caterpillar pops it out and releases a strong smelling chemical that can help scare away predators.
So while it looks like we’re having a tiny sword fight… this little guy is actually showing off one of its coolest natural defenses! 🦋

🍑 FRUIT TREE PRE-ORDERS ARE OPEN! 🫐

Hi everyone! I’m now taking pre-orders for the following fruiting plants.

We have apples, pears, plums, peaches, nectarines, figs, elderberries, pecans, blueberries, blackberries, citrus, and more!

Please check our fruit tree pre-order list for the complete selection. Prices are listed along with the gallon size. Cross pollinators are listed in parentheses to help you choose the right varieties for your garden or orchard.

As many of you know, we have our own personal fruit trees that we enjoy learning from and, of course, enjoying the fruits of our labor. Growing your own fruit is an investment in food security, and there’s nothing quite like picking fresh fruit from your own backyard. Homegrown fruit just tastes so much better than store bought!

If you have questions about varieties, pollination, or which trees may work best for you, please send me a message. I’m happy to help.

The Paw Paw fruit isn’t quite ready yet!

This is actually the first time I’ve ever held a Paw Paw, and I have to admit they’re not as big as I thought they would be! I also don’t have very many fruits. I’m incredibly grateful for what I was able to receive from my friend and native plant mentor.

Unfortunately, we won’t have enough fruit to make this a public event like I originally hoped. But if you already reached out to me for the open invitation to taste test, you’re still in!

I’ll be sending messages to y’all sometime today with the details.

Thank you all for being so excited to experience this unique native fruit with me!
