HD+S is proud to have served as the architect and interior designer for the historic preservation and adaptive reuse of the former St. Michael School and Convent. Now transformed into The Arch at St. Michael, this remarkable project provides 46 residents with affordable, safe, and dignified senior housing while preserving an important community anchor for generations to come. The transformation of this historic landmark demonstrates the power of thoughtful preservation and adaptive reuse to honor the past while creating a vibrant and meaningful future.

Earlier this month, the HD+S team was proud to join CHN Housing Partners for their Believe in Home 5K & 1-Mile Walk! It was a great day to get outside, connect with the community, and support CHN’s mission of creating and preserving affordable housing and helping Cleveland families thrive. Last week, HD+S team members joined John G. Johnson Construction on site at McKay Lodge Conservation to review and measure murals painted by Bob Cothran that will be reinstalled in the newly renovated Heiser Lounge at Kendal at Oberlin later this summer. The team collaborated on the best installation method for the murals while maintaining their beauty for residents and guests to enjoy for many years. HD+S was delighted to be on site for the raising and installation of the lantern at Arch of St. Michael. Meticulously recreating the original design, American International Construction, built and erected the 14 foot tall, approximately 1,000 pound replica of the original lantern. Sitting atop the five story former school building, the copper clad lantern will patina naturally over time, matching other existing copper elements on the building.
