So what is one to do in the middle of winter when there isn't much happening in the garden? How about join some other like minded plant nuts and go broom hunting in northern Michigan. One full day and two partial days of hunting netted 20 brooms, which will be introduced into cultivation.

While visitors are few this time of year, it was a pleasure to have Adam Black, director of Peckerwood Gardens, stop by the other day. Adam has been a major source for many of the rare and choice plants here at LWG over the years.

Winter, winter where are you? Certainly no complaints here but plants are starting to wake up, which isn't good. Winter temps will get here, I just hope it's a gradual slide back to reality.

What an absolutely miserable summer it has been here in the Charlotte area. Daytime temps have been running almost nonstop in the mid to upper 90's since the beginning of June and rainfall has been slim to none. What this means is a lot of unhappy plants, pleading for some relief from the heat and drought, and on the other hand, weeds, weeds, and more weeds. I hate winter but this summer has worn out its welcome. Posted are just a few pictures of conifers suffering from the heat and even succulents, that are waving the surrender flag.
