The pic below shows some of the exterior damage of an incorrectly installed exterior wood deck (only 12 years old). The exterior wall system, interior floor system, and interior hardwood flooring and kitchen all needed to be replaced because the deck ledger board was not correctly sealed to prevent water damage.
