Papers in the can get unruly quickly, especially with a family of four with two school-age kids. So, each Sunday, I go through my accordion folder and pull papers that correspond to the up-in-coming week. Papers for doctors and papers that describe events or activities for that particular week are placed in order on the counter. No matter how hard I tried, the papers would get disorganized or tossed on the floor accidently. So, I decided to cut the clutter on my counter by creating a current week paper sorter.

Here are the step-by-step instructions on how I made it. This sorter was created before I remodeled our kitchen. I created another version of this one with a magnet hanging board after I remodeled the kitchen. Feel free to check this one out here.

Supplies used for this project:

12-inch Giant Clothespin - I found it at my favorite craft store. Buy one medium clothespin for each day of the week.

seven(7) medium clothespins - You may need to buy more than one 6-pack.

Yellow acrylic paint

paintbrushes

dark stain

stain rags

wood glue

hammer

finishing nails

How long did it take me to make this current week's paper sorter?

There was a lot of drying time, so it took me about 3 days to do this DIY project.

How much did it cost to do this DIY project?

It cost about $15.00 dollars. I had all the tools and just needed to buy the clothespins.

How to Create a Current Week Paper Sorter

Stain the clothespins

First, I stained a giant clothespin and seven(7) medium clothespins and let them dry completely. This took about 3 hours.

It was easy. I took off the top by sliding the top of the clothespin from the spring. I could stain the entire pin. =)

Write the Days of the week on the Clothespins

After staining the clothespins, I wrote the day of the week's name on each clothespin with a contrasting bright color ... Want more information? Pulled Pork sandwiches are a great option for any family gathering. It's delicious and can feed at least 6 people. Since I had company on Saturday, we decided to do pulled pork sandwiches. I wanted to share our entire BBQ Smoking menu and where we found the recipes so that you, too, can recreate this menu for your gathering.

Instructions on how to make BBQ Smokin' Menu For A Crowd

Make the Pasta Salad the night before

First, I made the Pasta Salad I shared earlier this year. Here is the link again. I made it the night before to be ready and cold the next day.

Make the Rub

We then looked up a rubbed recipe in Weber's Way to Grill: The Step-by-Step Guide to Expert Grilling (Sunset Books) and used their Pulled Pork Sandwiches. We only used one 4 pound pork shoulder. It was wonderful.

The recipe didn't say to do this, but we decided to apply the rub to the meat the night before. The ingredients were:

chili powder

kosher salt

granulated garlic

black pepper

dry mustard

Doesn't it look fantastic? We let it sit for about half an hour to infuse the flavors.

Make Cole Slaw

We then made the Cole Slaw and used this recipe. We used the recipe from the Food Network site. It is a great go-to Cole Slaw recipe.

Make a BBQ Sauce

We made the BBQ sauce. The ingredients in the photo below are as follows from the top left: vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, granulated garlic, salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Mix all these ingredients together and heat, then set aside.

The barbecue sauce was the basic style sauce. We used this one from the Food Network site. The ingredients included brown sugar, ketchup, onion powder, etc...

And, here is the complete menu for a recent BBQ Smoking Menu! Doesn't it look fantastic! It was delicious.

Thinking about moving? Here's the thing most people don't realize: the process works best when you START EARLY and declutter FIRST.
Here's my month-by-month breakdown:
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 6 months out โ€” Garage, attic, basement
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 5 months out โ€” Living room, dining room, kitchen
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 4 months out โ€” Bedrooms
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 3 months out โ€” Bathrooms, memorabilia, coat closets
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 2 months out โ€” Playroom, personal items
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 1 month out โ€” Home office, important documents, backyard

Plus โ€” always pack an essentials bag for each family member AND a kitchen basics box to keep with you. Moving companies run behind, and you don't want to make a store run for everyone's clothes or scramble to find the coffee maker!

How much memorabilia (keepsakes) do you have in your home? Are they stored in boxes in your closet or displayed in cabinets? I challenge you to get these items reduced by at least half. Do you think that is impossible? Follow along and take these first steps in organizing memorabilia.

Whether the memorabilia is from your childhood, your kids', or your parents, minimizing how much space these items need in your home is a quick way to make room in any area. If you want to take on this challenge, read on.

When to go through your memorabilia (keepsakes)?

The summertime is a great time to go through your memorabilia. "Why," you may ask? First, you have extra time in the evenings to do some extra daylight purging in your home. It's good to do this before you go on another trip. Usually, people travel in the summer months and will most likely buy souvenirs and bring home items to add to the piles.

What is memorabilia (keepsake)?

We use memorabilia and keepsakes interchangeably. Both mean pretty much the same thing, so throughout this post, we will be talking about memorabilia as keepsakes.

The definition of keepsake is "something kept or given to be kept as a memento." While mementos can be in a variety of sizes, these sentimental items can quickly get out of hand if not kept in check.

Collect things you love that are authentic to you, and your house becomes your story. ~ Erin Flett quote

What is considered memorabilia or a Keepsake?

To help you determine what your keepsakes are, below is a list of examples.

Artwork and StatuesClothing - like concert t-shirts, team, baby clothes, and band t-shirtsGreeting Cards from other family members. Books from trips and favorite storiesForeign currency you brought home from a trip abroadHome Movies recording on VHS and DVDScrapbooks, photo albums, yearbooksKitchen tools: trivets and hot plates from ... If you have ever had Butternut Squash Soup, you will understand why I picked this as a delicious and easy dinner meal. The ease of this recipe makes an excellent meal for those hectic weeknights. This recipe is one of my go-to recipes during the week. And can easily be made in larger batches if you have company. I prefer to make portion-controlled dishes, and this one is no different. It makes a serving of 4, but you can easily double it to make extra for company. So let's begin.

Butternut Squash Soup Ingredients:

1 1/4 - 1 1/2 Butternut squash (already cut) - Cut even smaller into 1-inch pieces1/8 tsp Pepper1/8 tsp Salt1 Tbsp Olive Oil1/4 tsp Cinnamon2 tsp Granulated Garlic1/4 tsp Curry1/4 tsp Ginger2 cups Chicken Broth3/4 cup light cream

Butternut Squash Soup Instructions:

Below you will find the step-by-step instructions on how I made this dish.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

First, I weighed the butternut squash to determine how much butternut I had.

Then I cut them into 1-inch pieces so they would cook quicker.

I placed them in a bowl and tossed them with olive oil, granulated garlic, and pepper. Then, roasted the butternut squash on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet at 450 degrees for 25 minutes. (This is when I cleaned and prepared the light salad.)

When the squash was finished, I put the pieces in the pot with all the other ingredients (except for the light cream). I then used an emulsion blender with a low flame and combined the ingredients. See the image below.

Then, I added the light cream and used the emulsion blender to blend the cream. And that's it. Dinner was ready.

Tips: A side of toasted garlic bread and a light salad would work well with this dish.
