🛣 Ever wonder what "blacktop" actually is—and how your driveway or parking lot gets built from the ground up? Let’s break it down.
What is Blacktop?
Blacktop, also known as asphalt, is a durable mixture of crushed stone, gravel, and bitumen (a petroleum-based binder). It's designed to flex with weather and wear, making it perfect for both residential driveways and commercial lots.
Here’s how we build a typical 3 layer surface that lasts:
🔸 1. Stone Base
First, we excavate and install and compact a stone sub-base to create a strong foundation and proper drainage. This step is essential for long-term durability.
🔸 2. Binder Layer – 19mm Blacktop
Next comes the binder layer—a coarser mix of blacktop that adds strength and thickness.
🔸 3. Finish Layer – 9.5mm Blacktop
Finally, we apply a smooth finish layer made from a finer mix. This is what you see and drive on, giving your surface a clean, polished look. Our heated trucks ensure the blacktop goes down smooth and maintains the correct temperature.
From prep to pave, we take pride in every step of the process—because quality work starts below the surface.
