As I am slowing down in my semi-retirement, I am also cutting back to working 4 days a week. From now on, I will be working Monday through Thursday only.

To all my customers both present and future, as of January 2, 2024, I am 62 years old and I'm changing my service area and dropping all warranty companies. I am only accepting calls in Lauderdale county. I am no longer running ANY warranty calls. I will also no longer be servicing Samsung products. I am also no longer doing any sealed system work. I don't have any freon and will not be purchasing any more. It has gotten too expensive to purchase.

I'm sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but I am cutting back to enjoy a quality of life while I still can. If I can help in any other way, please let me know.

Due to the death of my father, all service calls will be postponed.

It seems that things are working out for me to start teaching an appliance repair class at Meridian Community College this fall. If anyone is interested in taking the course, please let me know. The class will probably fill up pretty quickly. I'm not sure about the scheduling yet. All that is still being worked out. The course will not be listed in the MCC catalog but will be posted on the website.
Again, if you have any interest let me know and I will forward all the information that I can. Electrolux is sponsoring the class, but I'm going to try to have as many brands included as I can. Several companies have expressed interest in getting training lessons, videos and possibly equipment to train with.

For all you people with a Frigidaire bottom freezer refrigerator that may have a flex tray ice maker there is a new fix for the fan freezing up and not making ice. It's a new air handler kit for the icemaker in the fresh food compartment. It has a far better seal around the evaporator housing to prevent warm air from getting in around it causing the fan to ice up and prevent it from making ice.
If you are experiencing an issue with your ice maker...Please let me know. I try to keep one of the air handler kit in my inventory.

An easy rip for those of you that own a gas range.
Any time you have a spill or boil over on your range you get that burnt on mess that seems impossible to get off around the burners. An easy solution for this is the purchase a can of the odorless oven cleaner from your local dollar store. Spray it on the effected area and let it work for about 15 minutes. Take a damp sponge with a Scotch Brite pad and clean it off. It makes your range look new again.

Just a reminder...
Many people forget to clean the condenser coils on their refrigerator at least once per year. Cleaning the coils on your refrigerator will make it operate much more efficient and will prevent service calls.
You can purchase a coil brush from your local hardware store or Walmart for around $5. The crevasse tool on your vacuum is also very effective but should really be used with the brush.
This is especially important for those of you who have pets that shed hair. The condenser fan will pull the hair from pets right under your refrigerator and can completely stop up the coils.
On most refrigerators the coils are underneath behind the toe kick cover. On some models this cover is screwed on but most just snap on and are easily removed.
If you're not comfortable performing this maintenance, call me. I will be happy to take care of it for you for just the service fee. For those within a 20 mile radius of Collinsville, that would be $64.20 with tax. For those outside of a 20 mile radius, it will be $85.60 with tax.
An ounce of prevention can save you a lot of expense in the future. No one wants to come home and find their food spoiled because the refrigerator stopped cooling so, don't put this off until it does.

I have recently heard a similar complaint about dishwashers not cleaning well.
A few pointers that I give all my customers:
1. Many people do not properly rinse dishes prior to putting them in the dishwasher. Unfortunately, you must remove all food particles from dishes or they will not get clean.
2. Most dishwashers have a HIGH TEMP WASH setting on them that doesn't come on automatically when you select your wash cycle. You must turn on HIGH TEMP WASH each time you turn on your dishwasher for it to heat the water while washing. Otherwise, you are trying to wash your dishes in lukewarm water. As the hot water runs over cold dishes it cools the water if the unit is not reheating the water as it washes...resulting in poor cleansing of the dishes.
3. Always be sure to run hot water to your sink prior to running your dishwasher. Many houses have water heaters that are a good distance from the kitchen sink. This means you have to run the hot water at the sink for a while before the water actually comes out hot. If you don't run the water to the sink prior to running the dishwasher, you are filling your dishwasher with cold water...therefore, not getting the dishes clean. The HIGH TEMP WASH setting is designed to heat the water about 45° more than it comes into the dishwasher. If the water is coming in at 120° to 140° as most hot water heaters are set, then the HIGH TEMP WASH setting will heat the water to 165° to 185° which should be able to clean your dishes properly.
4. If you have been noticing a milky looking film developing on your clear dishes, there is a cure. Several years ago, the EPA got involved with all the soap manufacturers and made them stop putting phosphates in the dish soap. That means that the soap is not coming off the dishes like it used to and hard water stains are allowed to build up on your dishes. There is a product called LEMISHINE BOOSTER that will solve this problem. Adding about 1 teaspoon of the LEMISHINE to the main wash compartment of your dishwasher along with a good POWDERED SOAP, will make all the difference in how clean your dishes come out.
In my experience, gel soaps do not work as well as the powder soaps. I use the GREAT VALUE powder packets from Walmart with the LEMISHINE in a very cheap, contractor grade dishwasher and it works great.
I also recommend using a rinse aid such as JET DRY. The hard water that we have in east Mississippi needs to be softened to rinse off thoroughly. That is the function of the rinse aid, it works as a water softener.
5. If you have a dishwasher with a stainless steel tub, as a monthly maintenance, place a small glass bowl turned upright in the top rack of your dishwasher and fill it with white vinegar. Then, run your dishwasher empty, except for the bowl of vinegar, on the longest, hottest setting you have on your dishwasher, i.e. POT SCRUBBER, SANITIZE, or HEAVY DUTY. This will clean all the stains from inside your dishwasher and help disolve any soap/detergent left in the tub.
6. Most dishwashers have the soap dispenser on the left side of the door as you are looking inside the dishwasher. Try to always put plates in the front left corner of the lower rack of your dishwasher so that the water spraying up from the lower spray arm can spray between the plates and hit the dispenser to get the soap out. If you put bowls or pots in the front left corner of the lower rack, the water is deflected from hitting the dispenser and may result in not getting the soap out of the dispenser.

Hopefully, this will help many of you to get cleaner dishes and better performance from your dishwasher. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
