It usually takes a couple weeks for rootstock to wake up, break dormancy and start to throw out leaves. In another couple weeks we may rub off to lower shoots and just allow a few shoots to grow at the tops. This will give us good clean surfaces to bud onto this summer.

Let me know what you want to save. I have EMLA 111, Geneva 890 and BUD 9 at this time. I might be able to get some Geneva 11 soon

Just finished the first step in saving your apple tree. Potted up 260 dwarf Bud 9, semidwarf Geneva 890 and Semi-Standard Emla 111. These will ready for budding in July through September or whip and tongue grafting from October thru next spring.
Don't let Grannies favorite tree pass from existence. Grandpa Matt can probably save it.

So many people have asked me in the past to help them save the apple tree from their past that the remember as a child. Most don't know what the variety was but they have fond memories of it.
As a nurseryman for most of my life I was usually too busy to do the very small amount that they wanted and I often recommended they graft their own. Many just don't want to try fearing they will fail, don't have the knowledge or just don't have the time.
Now at 73 I have the time and skills to be a "saver of memories" and will help save your favorite tree.
