Update on how much the universe hates us right now :

We cannot start working on fixing things until we know what our insurance covers (which should be almost everything). Our fabulous insurance has been dragging their feet and originally tried to act like the damage was our fault and they would not cover it. Last week, the plumber came in, and then a third party inspector came in, and BOTH said that it's normal wear and tear on an old house and NOT our fault and that we SHOULD be covered.
All last week we were dealing with this and Friday everything finally got turned in and we understood with the weekend nothing would move forward until at least Mon. But Nope! We call the person supposed to be processing paperwork today- and he's now out of the office for the next week!!!

Our agent is trying to find another person to process the paperwork but in the meantime we are essentially stuck and unable to make repairs. The first inspector that was here did NOT like that we had animals and did not even do a full inspection. I personally think they are unhappy that they might have to help pay for placing the animals temporarily while construction is being done, but we just don't know!

Our phone was ringing all day, and we took in several new baby squirrels including a very critical baby we will be posting about later.

Jacquimo's and our cats appointment today was over $500 😭 This is just a couple days after Jasper's $371 Vet Visit and Saban's Vet care a few days prior to that which was $260. We didn't have any donations towards Jasper's Vet Bill. Jasper's owner raised him from a baby and had him 10 years. Sadly, she had to be moved into an elderly home and that's when we took on both Jasper and Georgia and promised to provide them a permanent home. We are able to help so many animals thanks to our supporters! THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR WORK POSSIBLE!!!!

****EMERGENCY ****** ISO Trailer ******

We have some really bad news. A leak we didn't know about has caused extensive damage to our facility. We are having inspectors coming out soon to take a look and get started on repairs.

Our parrots can NOT stay here while the walls are being torn out/etc. While we will probably be boarding them temporarily, this project could be days, weeks or even months, and we couldn't afford to board the parrots we have for several months.

We are looking for a trailer that someone would either be willing to donate or sell to us. It must be insulated/in decent condition. We have an A/C unit we can add in and probably a heater if needed.

Please reach out if you can help! Our other small animals may need moved too; we will be talking with the professionals to see what will be safe/unsafe. It's possible we may need more than one trailer.

Squirrels are fine. None of the wildlife rehabilitation areas in the center are affected by this currently, and the squirrels are upstairs in a room away from the damage. Babies will grow quickly and go to outside cages, so they will be good no matter what.
