Stop letting HVAC companies tell you that refrigerant needs "topping off" every year. That's not how closed systems work.

Here's the truth: If your system is low on refrigerant, you have a leak. Period. Refrigerant doesn't evaporate or get used up it's designed to last the entire life of your system.

Any tech who wants to add refrigerant without finding and fixing the leak first is just setting you up for the same problem next season (and another service call).

What you should ask: "Where's the leak, and what's it going to cost to repair it properly?"
