Join us in cheering on Jackson Anderson as he takes the national stage!

A recent Mt. Pleasant High School graduate, Jackson has already shown impressive skill and determination in equipment operation, first mastering Caterpillar simulators in his CTE class, then earning silver in competition on a real heavy equipment challenge course.

Now, Jackson is headed to the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, where thousands of the nation’s top students will compete in over 100 leadership and technical events.

We were proud to spend a little time with Jackson as he sharpened his skills, and it didn’t take long to see the qualities that set him apart: interest, integrity, safety, care, and respect. He’s representing Mt. Pleasant and Maury County well, and we have no doubt he has a bright future ahead.

Good luck, Jackson...we’re rooting for you!

Safe driving deserves recognition! 👏🚛

At Nickell Company, earning a perfect driving score of 100 is no small accomplishment. Our company vehicles are monitored through a dash camera and GPS system that tracks important safety behaviors like speed, following distance, complete stops, and sharp turns. Scores are reviewed weekly and averaged over a rolling four-week period, making a perfect score especially impressive.

That’s why we’re proud to recognize Field Engineer Les Patrum, who not only achieved a perfect 100, but was also recently praised by a member of the public for the way he handled a difficult road-rage situation in heavy traffic on I-840 West. The caller, also a business owner, said Les responded exactly the way they would want their own drivers to handle themselves.

In a world where people are often quick to criticize, it means even more when someone takes the time to share a compliment. Way to go, Les! Thank you for setting the standard for safe, professional driving and representing Nickell Company so well.

Good behaviors spread fast, especially when they’re recognized and rewarded.

At Nickell Company, we care about people: our customers, our team, the public, and the communities we serve. One way we put that into action is by monitoring driving habits and encouraging safer choices on the road.

From White House to Pulaski and from Cookeville to Clarksville, our trucks are constantly moving. Lately, more and more of our drivers are focused on improving their driving scores, and a little friendly competition has helped that momentum grow.

In the first photo, Ethan Jennings (Paving Superintendent) holds his Safety Challenge coin for earning a perfect 100 driving score. Right behind him, four more CDL drivers have earned their coins with perfect scores:
• David Ragsdale
• Karl Witte
• James Durham
• Trevor Liles

Congratulations, fellas! Thank you for taking your safety (and the safety of those around you) so seriously. It never gets old highlighting the people who make Nickell Company great.

A week ago, we celebrated three team members who achieved a 100% driving score through our dash camera logistical tracking and driver safety coaching program. Now, that standard of excellence is catching on with two more drivers having joined the perfect score club!

Congratulations to Alexandria Potts and Jesse Weller on this outstanding accomplishment. Earning a perfect score reflects consistent discipline, focus, and patience, especially on Middle Tennessee roads. Achieving this behind the wheel of a large dump truck makes it even more impressive, given the stricter criteria and the challenges of navigating around impatient drivers.

Alexandria and Jesse, thank you for setting the bar high and leading by example. Your commitment to safety continues to raise the standard for our entire team!

At Nickell Company, safety isn’t just a priority, it’s one of our four core values. As part of that commitment, all company vehicles are equipped with dashboard cameras featuring anti-theft protection and GPS-based logistics tracking.

This technology also provides real-time coaching to drivers, helping reinforce safe habits on the road. Drivers can monitor their performance through a mobile app and review video clips of any flagged events (when not behind the wheel of course), turning every trip into an opportunity to improve.

At today’s monthly leadership meeting and lunch, we were proud to recognize Matt Huddleston (Estimator), Les Patrum (Field Engineer), and Lucas Santiago (Concrete Laborer, not pictured) with Safety Challenge Coins for achieving a perfect 100 driving score.
Earning a perfect score is no small feat. Even the most skilled drivers can lose points due to the unpredictable actions of others on the road. Achieving 100 requires exceptional awareness, anticipation, and patience.

Congratulations to Matt, Les, and Lucas for setting the standard and raising the bar for our entire team.

At Nickell Company, Integrity, Safety, Efficiency, and Quality are more than just words, they are the core values that guide everything we do. As a team, we strive to uphold these principles in our communication, estimating, scheduling, and, most importantly, in the work we deliver every day.

To recognize team members who consistently demonstrate these values, we’ve introduced four individual challenge coins, one for each core value.

In the attached photo, Christian Machado (left) and Edilberto “Sabrino” Lara-Machado (right) are being recognized with the Quality Challenge Coin for their outstanding work on the TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology) Hohenwald project, where we are proud to partner as a subcontractor with Nabholz Construction Corporation.

Several weeks ago, Christian and his crew faced a tight schedule from the general contractor, along with incoming cold weather that threatened their ability to deliver a high-quality result on time. Rather than stopping at the onset of darkness and hoping conditions would improve, they pushed forward…working late into the night to ensure the job was completed to the highest standard and on time.

Their dedication is a true reflection of what Quality means at Nickell Company.

At our Christmas Breakfast on December 19, 2025 Paul & Grant Nickell awarded Christian with the highly regarded CORE 4 Award, earning all four challenge coins in recognition of his exceptional attitude, leadership, and performance. He is the only team member to receive the Quality award twice within a three-month period.

Christian’s leadership is clearly making a positive impact on his crew, setting the standard for excellence across the team.

Congratulations, Christian and Sabrino, we are proud to have you both on the Nickell Company team!

We really enjoyed speaking with the students from Middle Tennessee State University’s School of Concrete and Construction Management yesterday morning. The Nickell team had the opportunity to meet several bright and talented individuals and collected more than 20 resumes from students interested in internships and full-time career opportunities.

Despite what the photos might suggest, it turned into a very busy morning, at times we even had a line of students waiting to speak with us. It was especially encouraging to hear so many of the students express a desire to build careers in the field, where they can have a hands-on impact on the success of construction projects.
