We are excited to share that the Clinton Public Library has received a 2026 Design Honor Award from AIA South Carolina!
Located at the edge of Clinton’s historic downtown, the new 11,000-square-foot library was designed as a highly visible and welcoming civic resource within walking distance for many residents. The new building responds to the scale and character of the surrounding neighborhood while drawing inspiration from the town’s textile and agricultural heritage through low-pitched roofs, standing-seam metal cladding, and a shaded front porch.
Inside, a central atrium, flexible gathering spaces, and strong indoor–outdoor connections create opportunities for learning, gathering, and community engagement. Custom oak benches were fabricated in collaboration with Piedmont Technical College using trees harvested from the site and reinforce the project’s focus on local craftsmanship, participation, and shared civic identity.
We are grateful to the AIA South Carolina jury for this recognition and thankful to our incredible collaborators, including, Studio Shea, Laurens County Public Library System, Thomas & Hutton, Solid Structures, Piedmont Technical College, Clinton Canopy, and the full design team who helped bring this project to life.
