Recently completed window replacement for Swift Middle School for the Solanco School District. They’re glad to be done with the rusting, energy IN-efficient metal in favor of maintenance-free aluminum. We spec’d some snazzy roller shades too, so no more afternoon blinding sun.

Work is wrapping up on Conewago Township’s municipal building addition. The addition will provide a larger, more modern public meeting room as well as more roomy office space for the Township staff. Dillow Associates was pleased to be working with our design-build partner Lobar Associates on another successful project.

Some great old photos and Sanborn Maps of our little project

One day this week we stopped by Jacob Tome’s Gas House to look at the restoration work that is going on there. The Town of Port Deposit is restoring this attractive native stone building on east bank of the Susquehanna River across the railroad tracks from where Tome’s mansion stood.

In the years before Port Deposit was wired for electricity, the gas house provided light and heat for Tome’s fine mansion. Records seem to indicate that it was built sometime around the middle of the 19th century, according to the Maryland Historical Trust.

The utility building is shown on the 1877 Atlas of Cecil County. Also, the Cecil Whig reported in its edition of Sept. 2, 1876 that workmen were “tearing up our streets and lying gas pipe from the gas house to the residence of Hon J. Tome.” The contractor, Patrick. “says he intends making gas next week for Mr. Tome.”
