Hi friends! There are a lot of new faces around here, so I wanted to properly say hello. 👋

I’m Katherine, the designer behind Katherine Thomas Studio. We do full-service residential + hospitality interiors.

A few things about me:

•Youngstown girl, Kent State grad, Columbus for the long haul
•14+ years in design. Before starting my studio I was a senior designer working on multi-family and high end residential projects
•I believe a beautiful home should be one you can actually live in.
•Girl mom, dog mom, and cat mom
•Paloma, w**e, or iced matcha, depending on the hour
•Left-handed, a Pisces, and an Enneagram 3, if that tells you anything

before you close up those walls, do a final walkthrough. drywall is the point of no return, so check everything now instead of tearing it back open later

Pendant lights are one of those details that make or break a kitchen. Here’s the rule of thumb: 30-36” above your countertop, measured from the bottom of the fixture to the counter surface. Over a dining table, same range, just measure to the tabletop instead.

A few things to keep in mind:
- Adjust based on ceiling height, taller ceilings can push toward the higher end
- If you’re hanging multiple pendants over an island, keep the spacing even and consider the scale of the fixture
- Always double check sightlines, you don’t want to be staring at a pendant across the table

Save this one for when you’re finally tackling that lighting project.
