Which tomato varieties grow the largest fruit?
People ask me all the time which tomato varieties grow the largest tomatoes. There are quite a few “large” varieties to choose from, and I’ve grown most of them. The problem is, most of them just don’t taste very good. My favorite large varieties are as follows:
(Orange) Kentucky Beefsteak- It has never failed me. Huge, delicious orange fruit.
Rozovyi Myod (Pink Honey)- Siberian heirloom. Huge, pink fruit. Absolutely delicious. You need to eat them immediately as they soften quickly.
Korol Sibiri (King of Siberia)- Another Siberian Heirloom. Orange, heart-shaped, delicious, and they keep producing. It’s Oct 25th and I’m still harvesting! The first set of fruit can reach 2 pounds apiece.
Huge Lemon Oxheart- It’s not an oxheart, but I don’t care. Huge, yellow beefsteak type. Delicious. Again, the first set of fruit on these can easily top 2 pounds.
Strawberry- An old German heirloom that produces huge, pink heart-shaped fruit. Sweet and creamy.
Lehrertomate (Teacher Tomato)- Another German heirloom. Dark red, meaty beefsteak variety. I’ve grown a few around 2.5 pounds. Traditional red tomato flavor.
All of these varieties are now available (seeds grown in 2019 for 2020).
Questions are welcome,
Mike
