It’s that time of year! Did you know you could get funding help to remove your pear tree? Frank’s is proud to partner with the Blazing Stars CISMA of Bartholomew County on their Callery Pear removal project. We are offering a discount on all callery pear removals. This includes cultivar names such as Bradford, Aristocrat, Cleveland, etc.
The Bartholomew County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Callery Pear Removal Program is an incentive program intended to defray landowner costs for removal of mature, standalone, landscape Callery Pear trees. The goal of this program is to help landowners practice better environmental stewardship by providing financial assistance for the removal of invasive pear trees that would not otherwise be removed without financial assistance.
The invasive Pear Trees are starting to bloom throughout Bartholomew County. These trees, known collectively as Callery Pears, have many different cultivars such as Bradford, Aristocrat, Chaticleer (Cleveland Select), and many more.
These trees have become widely invasive. They are crowding out our native trees that support wildlife. Pear trees were introduced a couple hundred years ago, but still do not act as a host plant for any pollinators. (Host plants are required for pollinators to complete their life cycle.) Oak trees, for instance, play host to over 400 different species of butterflies and moths. When our forests and roadsides are overtaken by this detrimental tree, it hurts the balance of our ecosystem.
Please consider removing your invasive pear tree from your yard! Most all subdivisions planted these because of their "perfect" shape and their ability to grow quickly. Now they have become a nuisance and are damaging our natural areas by taking away valuable space for native plants.
