MKSK had another fantastic summer volunteering with Camp Architecture & Design, the summer youth program hosted by The Columbus Center for Architecture and Design. Our team enjoyed working with students in grades 3–8 as they explored sustainability, creativity, and the fundamentals of design.

Our team hosted the “City Game,” a collaborative, hands-on activity that teaches participants about planning and design. Thank you to everyone that helped to organize and volunteer over the past two months!

We are always grateful for the opportunity to work with this amazing program and cannot wait for next summer at Camp Architecture!

Demonstrating their community spirit, members of our Columbus studio, Amy Kaye Taylor, Kristen Asiedu, Xinyi Shao, Jelena Hutchinson, Matt Kellogg, and MKSK friends and family, participated in the Hilltop 5K to support our veterans. Thank you for participating in this wonderful cause!

The summer heat is a yearly reminder of the importance of incorporating cooling elements into our park designs. Small, impactful features in parks and plazas can help lower temperatures and create comfortable, livable outdoor spaces. These include strategic shade, water features, cool materials and surfaces, and thoughtful planting strategies.
Whether it's a shaded bench under native trees or a plaza cooled by splash pads, thoughtful design makes all the difference.
