Our firm has built its reputation through thoughtful, research-driven design for schools, universities, faith-based organizations, and other environments where architecture shapes identity, experience, and community. Boston offers a uniquely rich context for that work, with its extraordinary concentration of intellectual exchange that allows us to engage with ideas shaping the future.

At the same time, Boston does not replace our foundation in Columbus. It complements it. Together, these two offices create a stronger, more resilient platform for practice, one that is rooted in long-standing relationships while also positioned for broader engagement. We are excited to announce the opening of MKC Architects’ Boston office, located in Southie on West Broadway, an important step in the continued growth of our practice. Boston’s vibrant academic, cultural, and architectural landscape provides an ideal environment for expanding our engagement with universities, institutions, and mission-driven organizations across the country and around the world. Ultimately, the opening of our Boston office marks an important moment in the ongoing evolution of MKC Architects, reflecting our recognition that the future of architecture will belong to firms capable of operating at multiple scales at once: locally attentive, institutionally grounded, and globally aware.
With offices in Columbus and Boston, MKC Architects is strengthening its ability to serve clients nationally while remaining deeply rooted in the institutional work that has defined our firm for more than a century. This expansion allows us to deepen our expertise in K–12 education, higher education, religious and spiritual spaces, and student housing, while continuing to design environments that support learning, community, and human experience.

Today we mourn the passing of Robert A. M. Stern — - architect, educator, humanist, and master of the profession. His work reshaped not only skylines but the very way we understand architecture’s relationship to memory, place, and community. Few have given so generously to the discipline. Fewer still have done so with such grace.

Stern believed that architecture is, at its core, a human act — an art of continuity that honors the past while opening new possibilities for the future. Through decades of practice, he elevated the craft with rigor and warmth, proving that buildings could be both intellectually resonant and deeply livable. His contributions have touched cities across the world, but perhaps his greatest legacy is the generations of students he inspired. As a teacher and dean, he shaped countless careers, instilling in young architects a reverence for history, a commitment to excellence, and an unshakeable belief in the civic purpose of design.

Those who knew him will remember not only his insight and discipline, but also his humor, his generosity, and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye during Friday martinis — a ritual that, in his honor, will live on forever.

Today we say goodbye to a giant. His work, his wisdom, and his humanity remain. May his memory continue to guide us in the pursuit of architecture that serves, inspires, and endures.
