Started as some peeling tape and a few small cracks, but it turned into reinforcing an entire ceiling sheet.
Water damage can weaken drywall over time, causing it to swell, separate, and create cracks and bulges; almost like tectonic plates pushing into each other. Thankfully, this one wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
As I removed the failed tape, I noticed the entire sheet felt loose. After carefully adding screws, I realized part of the drywall still wasn’t pulling tight to the ceiling, which meant something was trapped behind it. Sure enough, there was a medium-sized blister hidden beneath the face paper. I cut out the damaged section, secured the remaining drywall properly, and installed a fresh patch.
I re-taped the joints, coated them twice, matched the existing texture, and painted both the ceiling and wall to blend seamlessly with the original finish.
Good as new!
