More harvest June27th and waiting IMpatiently on the tomatoes to start a turn. Oh... can't wait for that first tomato sandwich or Mozzarella and home grown tomato salad.

Daily checks on the straw bale raised beds were so easy. No weeds. A few mushrooms in bales at start, but we just pulled them. This was end of May.

And the plating stage began after 2 weeks of prep. May 1st and 2nd plantings.

Straw Bale Gardening 2022 - May 1st and 2nd
(Important: see below steps for preparing the Bales for planting).

From the Beginning...
1. Build any shape that works for your space, using bales as walls.
2. Building beds, cut side UP, recommend not building too wide for ease of cross reach.
3. This set-up in the pics was 30 bales.
4. We used Huglekultur method for filling bottom half of bed... then add soul of your choice. 5. Prepare straw bales for planting directly into straw. One cup of Blood Meal (12-0-0) or other similar nitrogen additive (13-0-0) per day per bale, sprinkled on top and watered through until bale drains on bottom. 1-2 minutes per bale. Do this every other day for 2 weeks.
6. Rest Bales a few days or weeks (check by hand to ensure that the bales are not too warm to plant directly in... or plant inside bales (raised bed) as soon as several days after last treatment of blood meal.
