The leaves have fallen off the trees and it appears that winter is just around the corner, so here are a few end of the year tips.

Going into winter its ok to have a few leaves on the grass, but you really don't want a pile of them. Blowing them off or chopping them up with a lawn mower is a good idea. Also, if you do a last cut, it is helpful to lower your height of cut to 2-2.5". Long grass over the winter can suffocate turfgrass and result in mold issues.

Year end is here! You might think I am joking but it is time to discuss mowing heights. For the last cut of the year it is good to cut it low. 2 - 2.5" It also helps to mulch up leaves and grass so your lawn can breath easy over the winter. Piles of debris can cause sections to die off! Armyworm infestation!

Recently there has been an armyworm infestation. Patches of brown that seem to be grow at an alarming rate is one indicator. Confirm by putting a soap mixture in the brown turf areas that are close to green grass and seeing if the worms emerge. The rate is 1 Tablespoon of dish soap per gallon of water. Coverage is 1 square foot per gallon. Call us if you have a problem!
