Just posting a quick update!
The garden is growing and now we are waiting for blooms! We have been lucky with the weather this year! The heavy rain after the dahlias were planted did rot about 10-15 tubers, but I easily replanted them (we have more than 350 planted so that was good). The birds are picking the sunflower seeds out of the ground again, but not nearly as many as last year. I’ve only replanted a few. Since the early heavy rain, we have steadily had the pattern of a few days of sun and a couple of rain. This pattern is great!
I took advantage of the cooler weather tonight and weeded. I found a few dahlia buds! I staked the taller dahlias. I will go through and pinch the stems a bit to promote outward growth/blooms, and will give them a round of compost tea shortly after this.
The hoophouse has blooms, and we have lavender, so our roadside stand has been open the past couple of weekends.
This season (of the garden and life) has me thinking which direction I will go. I have learned through growing flowers what I don’t want the garden to be- and what brings me the most joy with the garden. I really think the garden has a plan for itself and I will know soon 💜. Leaving things up to Mother Nature from here on out is the best part. I have no idea what this space will look like in two months, but I can imagine it will be magical! For me, I will be taking in every joyous moment in the garden, and making sure I spend much more time doing things like this that fill me with gratitude.
I cannot wait to share this garden with you!
