🚨I’m a habitual garden rule breaker

06/03/2026

Last night’s storms left the garden looking a little wild, so early this morning I’m out here cleaning up before harvesting. That’s just part of gardening—sometimes the work starts before the harvest!

Even after the wind and rain, the garden continues to provide. Today’s harvest included fresh tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, peppers, basil, onions, and more. Every basket reminds me why I love growing my own food.

I’ll also be harvesting another Mammoth sunflower head soon. One of the easiest ways I know to check if a sunflower is ready is to open a few seeds from the head. When I see nice, plump kernels inside, I know harvest time is right around the corner.

Storms may knock things around, but it’s amazing how quickly a healthy garden bounces back.

What’s growing in your garden right now, and have you harvested anything this week?

I’m so tired of working…

Somedays I spend all day at work then all evening in the garden and now I’m wondering if there’s a scam where they pay you to pull weeds. 🤔😂🤷🏾‍♀️

I’m so grateful I grew up with a backyard garden. As a child, I didn’t realize those moments of planting seeds, pulling weeds, and harvesting fresh vegetables would shape so much of who I am today. Those lessons taught me patience, hard work, and an appreciation for where our food comes from.

Now, gardening is more than just something I do—it’s where I find peace, purpose, and joy. There’s nothing quite like stepping outside and gathering food, flowers, and herbs that you grew with your own two hands. Every season brings new challenges, new lessons, and new reasons to be thankful.

Did you grow up with a family garden, or are you the first gardener in your family? I’d love to hear your story! 🌻🥕🍅

I made my husband’s favorite soup: homemade chicken noodle soup. 🥕🧅🧄

I started with skinless chicken thighs and added carrots, celery, onions, and garlic from my garden. After adding broth and seasonings, I let everything simmer until the house smelled absolutely amazing. Then I stirred in ditalini pasta to finish it off.

Of course, no comfort meal is complete without dessert, so I baked a batch of homemade brownies too. 🍲🍫

One of the things I love most about gardening is being able to walk outside, harvest fresh ingredients, and turn them into a meal for my family. It’s a lot of work growing food, but moments like this make every seed planted worth it.

What is your family’s favorite comfort meal that always brings everyone running to the dinner table?

Reposted 😆🤣😆
My husband isn’t a gardener at all, but after all these years he knows exactly where to find me.

He may not share my gardening obsession, but he definitely supports it. And after 34 years together, I think he’s accepted that he’s sharing me with a garden full of vegetables. 🌱😂

Truth be told, neither of us is going very far unless we’re going together. Anyone else’s family automatically checks the garden first when they can’t find you?
