Last night I picked the first flower bucket of 2025. This is my favorite time of year as we say goodbye to a long winter and enjoy the longer daylight and warmer days. What a blessing it is to get back out in the garden.

The last day of January. Seven weeks until Spring! I have started a few things already one of which is English Daisy. One of my favorite little flowers that I love to tuck in. It is very easy to grow from seed and blooms all season long. These plants will probably show up at the garden centers with the rest of the spring flowers as they don't mind the cooler temperatures.

Snow outside, seed starting inside! While it is still a little early, there are some things you can start in January. Following the start times on the back of the seed packet is a good place to start. For example, I'm trying peppers from seed for the first time. The seed packet says I can start them indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost. My last frost is usually end of April, early May. So technically I am starting these 13-14 weeks before the last frost. I know pepper plants like it warm, so I won't be planting them outside until the night time temperatures are holding in the 60's. That fact affects my planning as I will have to commit to growing these plants in an indoor environment for the next 3 months. They are slower to grow so although I am starting early, I shouldn't have a monster plant to take care of come April. I also have an unheated greenhouse into which I can move them come late April. We will find out. Gardening is being willing to learn and not give up when things don't always go as planned.

First bee sighting of the year! This is why I grow crocus, other than the fact that they are beautiful and are the first sign that winter is almost over.

Pansies have such cheerful little faces. Two months ago this was just a seed in the packet and now it is all grown up and making me smile every time I see it. Enjoy the rest of winter....Spring is right around the corner.

My first seed order from Baker Creek. I am trying to be very deliberate in what I grow this year. Of course there are a few new things to try. I am always amazed at the potential in one tiny little seed. It is a testament to our Creator.

Happy New Year! On December 15th I bought a small rosemary plant. I took cuttings from where it branches off. I dipped the cuttings in rooting hormone and planted them into Pro Mix potting soil in a 12 pack cell tray. Today I checked them and they have grown roots. In just two weeks I went from one Rosemary plant to 13. I like that math! I plan to pot these up into 3 inch pots and let them grow on until Spring.
