Dry fit day! Didn’t go as planned but we figured it out. The sample we used to make the openings was wider than the seven other openings. So off came the brick mould and power planer persuasion got us there. The other 20 2nd floor double hung windows went right in.

Another delivery of double-hung windows is complete. We have built 20 double-hung windows for the second floor so far. The sash is made from old-growth fir with 1/4" laminate. Red Grandis for the jambs and Sapele Mahogany for the hybrid storm windows. Finished off with SRS brass locks, pulls, and pulleys, and stackable weights.

Our First round of window units is ready for delivery. These were a bear to put together. The client requested 1/4 laminate glass and old-growth fir for the sash. Spanish cedar for the jambs and Sapele Mahogany for the storm windows. The hardware includes SRS Locks, pulls, pulleys, and stackable cast-iron weights. We have a busy winter ahead as we make 20 more units.

Dry fit was a success. Now time to Mass Produce some window jambs. We need 18 jambs this size with sash and storm windows, and another eight that will be taller. We haven’t made rope and pulley jambs before, so we’re making it up as we go. The first couple jambs ending up in the scrap pile. We found that a fixture table helped keep everything square or squarish. The jambs are getting a new 12-over-1 sash with 1/4” laminated glass, so we went a little overboard with Baltic birch splines and 2” stainless screws for the connections of the jamb extensions and casing. After installation the screws will be hidden behind the masonry.

Our Spanish cedar sample jamb is ready for tomorrow’s test fit. We made it modular so that we can add and remove the different jamb extensions on site. Those SRS pulleys add some bling.
