Stoner Quality Water, Inc./Culligan & Laurel Mtn. Spas Water Conditioning dealerships operate under franchises granted by Culligan International of Rosemont, IL.

The purpose of these dealerships is to distribute products and services direct to the customer. Milliions of families in the United States and worldwide are served by over 1300 dealers. Over half of the water softeners in these countries are Culligan brand units. International granted the original franchise for Stoner Water Conditiioning to Ted Stoner in December, 1959. The orginial Franchise incl

uded only the Friedens, PA area, which covers all of Somerset county. In January, 1961 Ted's oldest son, Dick Stoner began working full-time for and in 1962 the first full-time salesman was hired. In April of 1963, Ted purchased the franchise for Allegheny county of Maryland from Crystal Laundry, which at that time had a total of 167 rental tank installations. As business grew, Stoner Quality Water acquired 10 acres one-half mile north of Corriganville in April of 1966 and in early 1967 a new steel buidling was constructed. By 1970 Stoner Quality Water had acquired a franchise in West Virginia and entered the swimming pool business and related line of pool chemicals. In 1973 Stoner Quality Water acquired the franchise for Hagerstown, MD followed by the opening of an office in Frederick, MD in the summer of 1982, which was subsequently closed.
