PLAN A: Sand, fill grain, and paint circa 1990 custom cabinets as part of full home remodel.

*sanding reveals that original "whitewash" finish did not pe*****te the pores in the wood*

PLAN B: Sand until my arms fall off to expose all the beautiful oak under the dated finish, then stain and apply clear finish to create a more timeless look.

It's like the old saying, "The best laid plans of mice and Sven..." (Pun definitely intended) 😂😂😂

Sometimes we think we know best, but the project knows otherwise. Question is: Do we keep pushing and impose our will at whatever cost; or do we pause, take a step back, and listen when the walls whisper "try this instead."?

I think I'm on the right side of that question... this time. What do you think???

Don't let anyone tell you producing a smooth surface on Red Oak is quick or easy. It IS a simple process, but it requires lots of elbow grease, sand paper, and patience. Like so many other things in life: SIMPLE ≠ EASY. Gotta put in the work if you want high-quality results!

PAGOSA DREAM HOUSE: I had the privilege of painting these GORGEOUS custom cabinets built and installed by the truly skilled and talented craftsmen at Animas Craft Woodworks. Came across a few challenges, like figuring out how to hang rather heavy 72" tall doors for painting. Regardless, starting with a great canvas definitely makes the road to achieving a beautiful finish so much easier to travel!

Can I say how much I love the color choice? It's just so fun and funky! The color alone turns what might otherwise be a largely utilitarian mud/laundry room into a legitimate conversation piece and brings a bit of joy to the mundane task of doing laundry. The name "Intense Teal" (Sherwin Williams) definitely doesn't undersell it.

Give me a holler when you are ready to elevate your space with a spash of color. We will make it happen!
