Random pollinator fact of the month #2:

The native leafcutter bees are out and about right now! They are the ultimate pollinators of wildflowers, and summer fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, melons, peppers and more.

Aside from their larger head and that the females have teeth, you can distinguish leafcutter bees from honeybees because they carry pollen on the underside of their belly. Their Velcro-like belly hairs, called a 'pollen brush', pick up and drop pollen as they fly from plant to plant, thus making them a very effective pollinator.

Hey there! We want to make sure you know that all the plants we pot up at the nursery are treated with Big Foot Mycorrhizae.

This is the first year we were graciously gifted Big Foot Mycorrhizae concentrate to inoculate the bare root trees and roses we potted up in late February-early March. The plants have being growing strong through spring, and we have noticed a marked difference in plant health compared to years past.

Needless to say, we're pretty excited and impressed with the results, and had to share!

So, here's our random predatory insect fact of the month:

Dragonflies are indicators of healthy freshwater ecosystems, as they are highly sensitive to pollution, their presence indicates a nearby clean water source and healthy aquatic ecosystem.

In addition, dragonflies are the ultimate pest controllers, both in larval and adult stages. For example, nymphs feed on mosquito larvae, and adults feed on mosquitos, gnats and flies, and who wouldn't want that?

- Shonnard's Landscape is seeking an individual with experience in paving stones, flagstone, rocks walls, concrete block retaining walls, water features, lawns, planting, and other general labor related to landscaping.

- We prefer at least 6 months experience in the field of landscape construction.

- Applicants must have a valid drivers license, be willing and able to meet and communicate with customers on a daily basis, manage accounts, show initiative and creativity, be dependable, and punctual. A positive attitude is a must.
